I've heard of some PD's going with AK's and Mini-14's instead of AR's and MP5's.

Well, the AK does look scarier than the AR-15.

    AK-103

Only modern assault rifle there firing the more powerful 7.62mm round. With all the reliability of an AK47 and the modern technology of the 101.

Sounds like what everybody wants. Best looking gun has to be the FAMAS or G36 series though.

    Tried tested and Loved SapperSGT,

R-4 was my most favourite weapon of choice, barely ever broke down easy to strip and assemble and light. as current using a Steyr AUG in the ADF useless 13 working parts once striped, jams like no tomorrow, when will ppl learn???

I don't quite know what sort of Steyr the Aussies ended up with but I have never heard a good thing about it. Can't say its the same out our way, AUG in service with DF in Ireland works like a charm (no smart arse comments about lucky charms).

I too have heard that the Australian AUGs are nothing but trouble. Perhaps it's a problem with the tooling or manufacture of these domestically produced weapons.

My vote would go to the Tavor, or the HK-416. But that is from talking with people and technical comparisons, not necesarilly using them in the field myself, which could yield different results.

    Eh

Weapons of war should be made of wood and steel, not alloy and plastic.
I'm sorry but the AUG works just fine and is extremely durable. I think you may be getting into a which one looks nicer thing there and that is down entirely to opinion.

I think this takes the cake as the best in the world.

    YouTube - HK 416

Already becoming popular with LE agencies and being tested by the US Army, although as usual I don't see it replacing M16/M4 weapons systems as a general issue anytime soon.

I think it'd be reasonable to replace those M16s that are worn out and going to be sold or donated to other countries. The differences in training would be miniscule.

Now what the US really needs to do is adopt the 6.5mm Grendel round. Or at least a heavier grain 5.56mm. But I guess I'm getting a bit off topic.

    H&k 416

I like the H&K 416, a very nice assault weapon, high capacity ROF,. short easy to maintain.

Some of the weapon's mentioned IMO fall into the battle rifle catagory, by that I mean wieght of weapon and ammo that can be comfortably carried for a sustained period of time, on an assault, maybe I'm wrong.

The weapon's that I have used:-

    M16A1 (Expert)
    M16A2 (Expert)
    AUG
    AK 47
    FN (L1A1)
    G36
    G3
    L85A1
    UZI
    MP5
    Sterling

I chose the M16A2 due to my experience.

How many peeple chose the G36 without having any experience with it?

    Toe.
Yet another ex-tankie of 1 RTR origin.
