"This guy does'nt look like one"
In that pic John Wayne looks like a tough guy that beat the snot out of a pussie and stole his hat.![]()

IMO, berets are more cool looking than the soft cap. :

"Yea, but they distinguish people right?"
Yep. As pussies.
Berets had SOME appeal when they were unique and rare. Now that even fuccking supply clerks wear them....they're just another gay fad.
I hate the berets.
Well, you can blame that idiot who decided to take away the Ranger Black Beret and issue it TO THE WHOLE ARMY.Originally Posted by M21Sniper

I could easily agree with that.
I'll definitely take a pay raise more than a cool beret.
O think berets aren't that bad at all, you just have to get used to them.
Surely snip the soft cap/*** cap is ok with the caombat dress but not for working dress. The beret with combat dress was mainly used by the Paras and armored corps (British army).Originally Posted by M21Sniper

Personally, I'd rather wear a helmet into combat than a floppy hat that looks quirky for all occasions.

Why we wanted OUR Army to look French is beyond me. It is completely non-functional:
1. Takes two hands to put on. Coming out of a buidling carrying an armload of something is now a major big deal.
2. Doesn't keep the rain or sun out of your eyes.
3. Doesn't keep the ears warm in the winter.
4. It's REALLY hot in the summer.
5. With the beret flash camoflaging the insignia, it is difficult to determine the rank of the officer you're about to miss a salute to.
6. Some people wear it like a shower cap. There's no way to screw up the wear of a patrol cap.
7. A soldier still needs his patrol cap ANYway, because the beret is not approved for certain training (like, for instance, small arms training - the most soldierly of ALL training).
8. It's made in CHINA.The People's Republic of Freakin' CHINA.
No reason to go on. I have no good reason that this decision should have been made in the first place, but there's a start on why it should be rescinded.

Well said brother Bluesman.![]()
Almost all countries on earth wear the beret. If not their entire army, atleast some special units do. They're not ALL trying to be French are they?Originally Posted by Bluesman

Even the lyneyard is quite non-functional but we still wear it. Why?Originally Posted by Bluesman

It is not supposed to. It is a demi-ceremonial head wear.2. Doesn't keep the rain or sun out of your eyes.
Which other cap does that?..apart from the balacalava.3. Doesn't keep the ears warm in the winter.
So are all other caps4. It's REALLY hot in the summer.,...you just wanted it to be hot to keep your ears warm.

Then copy the Commonwealth system of wearing rank on the shoulders.5. With the beret flash camoflaging the insignia, it is difficult to determine the rank of the officer you're about to miss a salute to.
Many guys don't even know how to wear their uniform.6. Some people wear it like a shower cap. There's no way to screw up the wear of a patrol cap.
When will you understand that the beret is for office wear and not for the combat dress. If one cannot aim a weapon with a beret, - its not supposed to cover your eyes.7. A soldier still needs his patrol cap ANYway, because the beret is not approved for certain training (like, for instance, small arms training - the most soldierly of ALL training).
Maybe that is the problem, you guys are wearing berets made by guys who don't wear them8. It's made in CHINA.The People's Republic of Freakin' CHINA.
. The British make it better. Our Paras too import their maroon berets from UK.
Why did your air force guys copy the army and use the beret, IMO the side cap was smart enough. No reason to go on. I have no good reason that this decision should have been made in the first place, but there's a start on why it should be rescinded.
