Good gun for diving?
I've recently bought a 36ft sailing boat and am planning some diving trips to the red sea. I was thinking about buying a gun for general protection and which can also fire underwater, for sharks and stuff (i seen jaws a few too many times
). I hear glocks fires a short distance without the barrel splitting, any recommendations? p.s i buy all my guns from the czech republic |

If you fire a gun underwater, not only will you have one shot (if you charge it before you go in the water), but when you do, your eardrums will pop.
My coip told me that the only gun that you can fire underwater is the glock, but he may be wrong because he was way too biased for glocks. |

I've never seen one for a speargun, but I see no reason why it couldn't be done. It would bleed off speed pretty fast and be front heavy, but shark business is all close range anyhow.
To the OP- Sharks aren't really dangerous to divers, typically it is swimmers on the surface that get attacked. Sharks know you are not their normal fare. It's the guy on a boogie board that has to worry. When I dive, I carry a Hawaiian Sling, but that's just to get some dinner. I have never been messed with by a shark. Your biggest concern should be predators of the two-legged variety. |

sharks are the least of your concern when diving. the most obvious danger is decompression sickness, but if your worried about critters, sharks at at the end of the list.
i would invest more in skin protection, because your more likely to be injured by jellyfish/fire coral or other harful ndirian (sp?). im not what the conditions in the red sea are like though

I'll look into bangsticks, i thought about a speargun but didnt like the idea of only having one shot per 10s or whatever its reload time is Now that you mention it i've seen a lot of vids with people diving around tiger sharks etc, however i'd feel a lot safer in the abyss having something like that SPP-1, i'll ask around about it |

Trust me, that Russian icepick isn't going to do sh*t to a shark. I'd pick a 12 gauge bangstick for shark protection, and a .357 powerhead for hunting big fish with a speargun.
