Not trying to take sides in this, but I'm pretty sure you misread Snipe there- As I read his post, the comment about Garands and M14s was talking about the excessive (in Snipe's view) conservatism of the American military when it comes to infantry rifles, and had nothing to do with the following comment on the fragility of the AR.
