I'm all for carrying MY own weapon - but don't have confidence in the average person to know when to leave it in the holster. During the AZ Gifford shooting, there was an armed civilian present who tackled the shooter he wisely left his gun in his holster - had he drawn it - he probably would have been shot and blamed as an accomplice in the shooting.
I see a would be hero as likely to be in the same boat - most of the time. As a last resort or when no one else is there - your own gun is a good thing -otherwise, it is a liability - I know this from personal experience - I had draw a gun during a home invasion - it was a love triangle involving my room mate and an acquaintance. The acquaintance was charged on drugs and had been overhearing his GF, upstairs at my house with my room mate - doing the wild thing. was sitting in the front room watching TV, the door burst open and the angry BF ran upstairs and preceded to beat the crap out of my roommate - threatening to kill him. I got out my .44 and loaded it with 240 gr SJHP's, intervened in the beating - and instructed the Bf to get the hell out - he glared at me and dared to shoot him (he was unarmed - but threatened to shoot the lovers). The police arrived, they were going to arrest me - until the GF and roommate talked them out of it. I quickly got rid of the roommate and later sold the 44.
