Im not of the millitary. No service.
Probably beause i lucked to be a between wars baby.
I was supposed to go to duntroon. Easy to enter.. but all boys.. no thanks.
To fill in that time i read a lot and did questionable things.

I have Range and open field fired AR-15. [closest to an M4]
AK and Akm. Kar-98K. Lee enfield.
SKS and M1 Garand. MP44 that came apart in my hands..lol.
Choked 12 gauged pump [ from missouri PD] and a few pistols.
Im good with guns.. we know when we are good with a tool.

I want an Xm8 . or an m4 DAMMIT now you've put that in my head...
Maybe a proven tool is the best. LOL

I know enough of war to hate it. And hopefully the lucky country will stay lucky.. But if the poo hits the fan..
It cant hurt to have skills.

Read Iain M Banks 'Use of weapons'
This teaches what a weapon is, not what it appears to be.

As for the gas piston though, a well regulated gun or a propperly set adj gas piston can affect that accuracy greatly. My M1A is a piston, though not AK type, and it is a sub-moa gun. I was just looking for an apples to apples on the the listed pieces.
I'm semi-necroing this thread because of Nutnfancy's excellent review on the Robinson's Arms XCR.
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDT7yAmB6bI (inbed later)

Apperently he talks about the heavy weight of the gun in porportion to it's barrel width and the accuracy is at a somewhat unimpressive 2.0 to 3.0 MOA gun. He also had accounts of the thing seizing up with Wolf ammo (honestly what gun doesn't, even AK's fail with wolfies). Hope this helps.

You need to have a watch of both videos on this link and read the text....

I'd love to see similar tests done to any possible M4/M4A1 replacement candidate.

The general says its a no brainer! the dumbest armorer I know could have told them a heavy barrel lasts longer than that crazy cut M4 barrel.

I would like to withdraw my vote for the Bushmaster ACR! Bushmaster has come out with a suggested retail price of $3,000.00!

The overwhelming consensus of SF operators I have heard so far is that the M-4 is a carbine and issuing it to the infantry like its a battle rifle is a bad idea. They are good for MOUNT but in Afghanistan badly impaired range.
