    Rann fails to curb violent crime - Liberal SA

    Monday 12th October 2009

    The spate of violent attacks and robberies over the past few weeks highlight the failure of the Rann Government to curb rising violent crime in South Australia.

    Isobel Redmond, Leader of the Opposition said that it is time Premier Rann faced up to his government’s abject failure to effectively reduce violent crime and the causes of violent crime in SA.

    “The community is terrified and angry at waking each morning to news of another violent robbery, car-jacking or home invasion,” Ms Redmond said.

    “Premier Rann came to power promoting himself as being ‘tough on crime’, yet he has proven to be Premier of a government which has allowed violent crime to prosper.

    ABS 2008 Victims of Crime Statistics show that in SA between 2002 and 2008:

    * Homicide and related offences increased by 22.6%
    * Armed Robbery increased by 10.4 %
    * Assault increased by 3.9 %

    “Violent assault in SA has increased steadily since 2002 with 17,178 people becoming victims of assault in 2008 - roughly 50 people per day are violently assaulted.

    .....

    Here's a PDF about home invasion from the Sth Aust. Government, including definitions... http://www.ocsar.sa.gov.au/docs/info...etins/IB11.pdf

    Including statistical data on types of home invasion.

    Note that males are disproportionately more likely to be assaulted than females.

    essential information to anyone with a roof over their head.
