I am not buying the reason for replacing automatic pistols. It is easier to use, yes. But adopting it because you don't want to do a misfire drill? Ideally, people should be trained to rack the slide of their pistol for duds like it's second nature. On a side note, Taiwan abandoned revolvers for a similarly absurd reason--it takes longer to fire a unloaded, safety-off automatic pistol in case the criminal grabbed the officer's gun.

If they are that close, they should have been cuffed--if they are that dangerous, they should have been shot.

So the article was just some propaganda to sell it better?

Is the auto malfuntions th only reason they gave for switching?

I would bet that most of the malfs where caused by the operators lack of training. What would you bet?

There was no article. Just a bunch of pictures posted with little context and the readers posting their reactions.

We don't know what exactly those revolvers are for. We don't know the official reasons for replacing the Makarovs. And we don't know the performance of the 9mmR rounds.

We are all just guessing that it is to replace the Maks due to revolver's simplicity.

Nonetheless, it looks like an interesting piece of firearm.

Not really a smart idea replacing a double action pistol with a revolver, they should consider a glock or a sig.

    gunnut,

Those are GongAn, civilian police and throughout the history of PRC, they are never armed and only the PAP is allowed to carry handguns. The revolver was issued after number of high profile incidents where GongAn was overpowered by gangs and drug traffickers.

Chinese Police is testing a new 9mm Revolver
The so call Type 06 revolver actually looks like a knockoff of Smith & Wessen small frame revolver. It's 9mm rimmed ammo looks like the .38 short Colt. The new revolver will be issues to Chinese cops in traffic, foot partol, public affair and admin duties. Currently those cops are unarmed. So, I guess something is better the nothing ... Timothy Yan

Frankly arming them with Sigs and Glocks would be an insult to Sigs and Glocks. Trigger and handling discipline is non-existant in those photos.

I guess revolvers are good guns for newbies or inexperinced shooters.

They do tend to be good guns for new shooters ermac. They are also pretty good guns for cheap duribility on the fringes of society, and sometimes people forget that large swaths of rural china are still very much 3rd world places. Also when you consider that you can manufacture servicable ones in a machine shop or 3rd rate factory for not more than $10 worth of metal and you uderstand why china might want to have a standardized revolver for whole bunches of various groups. Street police, and trusted local party members would be my guess. In the US we've kinda gone seriously overboard on our guns with many of them extremely overmanufactured to get negligible performance or weight savings out of guns and still last generations as handme downs with lots of firing. The whole idea of cheap gun with so so shooting qualities thats heavy and ugly seems like a wartime expediant for us or a shoody overseas gun. Its kinda funny in some ways really.

I guess it's better than getting hit by a real bullet, even a slow moving one like that.
