legal to have guns in parking lots

Now that it may become legal to have a firearm in your car at work, and there are still malls that don't want your legal (or illegal) concealled carry weapon inside, the street vermin are likely to hit parking lots to try to harvest weapons. I am sure what ever companies make having a weapon in your car legal will have anti gun nuts protesting so that it the dirtbags did not know about it they will from the commotion. Which brings me to the question, what firearm are you willing to keep in your glove box or console, that you trust your life on and yet won't get sick to your stomach over having it stolen? I know some people have bought some really crappy cheap guns for that purpose, lorcins, mavericks, llamas, and such, I have a hard time going that low on the quality chart. I have a firestar .40 for that purpose, $289, would not like to have it stolen, but better that than a kimber or delta elite. Smith makes the sigma which is around $300, and not a bad gun, reliable. What do you folks think?

it isn,t so much that i,d be all broken over the loss of the gun, it is the fact that i lost a regestered gun would make life complicated a lot.
if i call police plaza and say i lost my gun or it was stolen, i'll loose my license, and pbly will never be able to get another one ever, in the city of ny, that is.
as for self defence gun, almost any gun can do, expencive guns are overrated, cheap .38sp 2"bbl revolver is more than enough, keep in mind in many cases you, don't even need to fire it.

there are better places to keep a gun in your car, than glove box or console, just be creative. for handguns, that is.

If I lived in a place where you couldn't bring a gun to work, or carry it into a mall, first I would want to move to a place that doesn't have those goofy laws. But if I stayed and was worried about leaving the gun in the car, I would get some used revolvers, and install a lockbox in the car to keep the gun in.

This is just my take on this, as a gun owner and someone who is concerned about security. I would never ever leave a gun/weapon in a car on the mall lot, it wouldn't matter if it was a .22 or a .454 costing $50 or $5k. I wouldn't want the crack head shooting himself or someone else with one of my weapons. Sorry, the argument is somewhat like the guy getting caught DUI and *****ing that he's lost his drivers license, never sparing a thought for those he may have harmed or killed if he had had or caused an accident.

We do have a CCW over here, I don't think that I need to CCW, if I did I would do my shopping where I can CCW.

Just how often do cars get broken into in the US???

The army doesn't allow unattended weapons. That attitude carries through.

Constantly. Its a big problem in some areas, especially at shopping malls. I know people who leave their cars unlocked, hoping that criminals will just rummage through the stuff in the car and leave without punching out glass or otherwise damaging the car. Some go as far as to leave some cash in the car, as a payment for the criminals, again hoping that they will be satisfied and not damage the vehicle out of spite.

Where I live there are no off-limits places for carry that would force me to leave the gun in the car, so I'm OK no matter where I go.

I will be getting one of these for my jeep very soon. I currently have a large steel storage box made by Tuffy products but I often remove it for hauling stuff. IMO, the only way is to secure the firearm properly, allowing it to be stolen is irresponsible gun ownership.

I find this hard to understand. Are you saying the criminals are being assisted by 'helpful' citizens? Lunacy! You're making it sound as though America is as lawless as 4th Century Rome.

i had my car broken in once, in 14 years i live in brooklyn some crackheads broke rear door glass(the small triangled glass), they went thru my glove box, concole, stole all coins i had, a cheap multi tool, and a lighter. that was it, they never opened the trunk, good thing, i had planty of valuable stuff in there, but either they were stupid, or were in a rush. value of things stolen=20$ tops, cost to fix glass, around 150$.

Actually not a bad comparison, Glyn.

erm... if u install a lockbox it'll be pretty obvious u got something worth hiding. thats like a magnet to burglars, unless ur lockbox is pretty well concealed.

    None.

This rather came up in the lesson during my first CHL class. The instructor went thru going to the steak house, the restaurant not allowing guns indoor, the disgruntled guy going back to his car to drop his gun off because his wife insisted on eating steak there ..............and some guy on the roof top with binocs calling down to his allies by radio to tell them which cars got the guns returned to them.

What was the instructor's answer? Have a lock box that one could put under the seat installed ........ this particular gun store did sell them.

It's not just a point of placing decoy out so they will leave you alone; it is a point of being responsible and not easily putting guns into the hands of the crooks.

Perhaps ....... of course, they might be rather disappointed after going to all that trouble to breaking in to find out that that was just one of those days when nothing was in it.

Concealment is part of the idea. If the lockbox is visible to a casual thief, you have pretty much failed the test.
