What weapons does the Assault Weapons Ban cover? Automatic weapons, or just assault rifles in general???

Can a civilians purchase an m16-A2 or ak74 - the 74 and A2 are semi auto right???

Can a civilian purchase an ak47 after the ban is lifted???

Also, I want to buy a new handgun. I currently have one handgun, and I bought it as a starter gun when I turned 21 (about 2 months ago) - its a S&W 9mm. I've been to the range over and over with it, but im ready to step it up a level. What does everyone recommend?

The liberals misuse the term "assualt rifle" or "assault weapon", they use it to term any weapon that is capable of firing with an automatic capability.

I dont know, I would assume so, contact who ever handles firearms registration in your area (usually the county sheriff's office), they would know the answer.

The assualt rifles ban basically stopped civilians from purchasing rifles with an automatic capabilty and restricted them to buying semi auto versions (as if that is any less dangerous then shooting on full auto or burst, IMO auto is just a waste of bullets), it also banned having bayonet lugs on the end of rifles (like the local gang needs bayonets on rifles?) It is innefective as the gangs buy their weapons off the black market regardless, back in 1996, there was a huge shootout between gangs near me, something like 20 people ran around with AK's, Tec-9's etc

Assault weapon is a legal term, assault rifle is a military term. The term assault rifle is derived from the German word "sturmgewehr".

I live in Washington state, is there any way to get a semi-atuomatic G36C or G3a3 anywhere in the states or purchase a M4 or M16 that is legal right now?????

Also, i was wondering if you only have to be 18 to purchase an AR-15?????
