that's what i've got too, complete with red-dot sight and foregrip. less recoil than a paintbull gun!

Haven't tricked it out yet, my only plan is a red-dot sight of some sort, but I'm more of a single-action fellow myself. Aiming is for wimps.

Just purchased a Falcon FN 19 PCP bolt action 8 shot skeleton stock light hunter 177 air rifle , great for rabbits/pigeons/squirrels/rats etc , useless for Elk / deer / buffalo/ bears / puma etc as its only 12 F/P there again this is the UK .

Make your own red/green dot , a laser pen is all it is , nail it to the stock

Just paid off the Tikka T-3 Lite in .223 that I ordered from the gun shop and am waiting for my permit to acquire and the Leuopld VX-2 3-9x40 scope with wide duplex recticle to arrive. Yay! Can't wait.

Whacked my first critter the other day too, just a brown hare as the foxes don't seem to be coming out to my whistle, but I'm joining a conservation hunting group so hopefully there will be plenty of other opportunities.

The Leo sight is one of the best on the market , swarovski IMO being top of the tree , however yours may be a little underpowered at 3x9x40 but its your choice of course , I found the nikko stirling nighteater ( favoured by roo hunters ) to be excellent with a built in rangefinder mil dot reticle and parralax SWAT side wheel adjusting turret

my fav at 8x30x60 , it gives ultra clear views at 10 mtrs to infinity using the SWAT and they cost here in the UK about 180 quid .

Yeah, I would have gone for a 4 - 12 x 40 for a .223 but I originally ordered the scope for a .22 magnum. When I found out it was going to take six months to arrive I switched to the .223 but the scope was on order. It isn't a drama, I'll be getting a 30-30 soon so I'll order a 4-12 x 40 with that and switch them. In the mean time I'm only looking at whacking feral cats and foxes out to 200 yards or so, mainly in rain forest so for most shots the 3-9 will be fine. I actually think that the question of scope power can be significantly over thought anyway. You never know where an animal is going to pop up and it could just as easily be too close for a more powerful scope as too far for a weaker one, so all you can do is to estimate what is best for the terrain you are expecting to hunt in.

As I told the salesman in the gun shop, the Swaroski can wait for a deer rifle. It is worth spending over $1000 for glass if I'm spending the same on a deer hunt, but not for feral vermin. The Nikko Stirling look like a reasonable budget option but I've heard enough complaints about QA to be prepared to spend another couple of hundred on a Leo. Guns and scopes should last a lifetime so buy once, cry once is my philosopy nowdays.

Tankie, does the UK legislate air rifles at all, or can you simply buy one OTC if you are 18 or 21? And is there a maximum caliber or energy? The reason I ask is that there are specially built air rifles that are fully capable of taking large game like deer.

Are you familiar with the Lewis & Clark expedition in the USA? In 1803 or so. these guys went on an expedition of exploration in the Western USA. At that time, pretty much everything West of the Mississippi was terra incognito. Being away from normal supplies of black powder, they took along some custom air rfiles that looked like this:



The butt was the reservoir and was pumped up manually. It was .46 caliber, and apparently was very powerful. They make modern variations on this, very interesting arms.

Chogy I had no idea they were able to seal an air rifle effectively at that time period.

You can buy one over the counter up to 12 F/P cal usually 177 20 22 2.5 , after 12 F/P an FAC is required , daystate have just produced the wolverine in 303 cal and delivers 100 F/P it needs an FAC .

No doubt the way the UK is going all air weapons will be licenced , I recall a long time ago some air rifles were used as sniper rifles , and if caught with one you were executed , cant recall exactly when this was though , lets face it , air is still a gas and a PCP rifle takes the place of a cartridge , like your pic above

I noticed it has a hammer , how did this work on the air rifle , all i can think is that it holds a valve open for a determined amount of time ? There is no explanation in the review .
