I began my firearm collection by mail-ordering an 1851 Colt Navy. Love BP guns. Cleaning them is another story. You have to use water-based solvents, as the residue left behind is water-soluble ONLY. Regular bore cleaners don't work.

In a world inhabited by zombies or mutants, you can make your own black powder, another bonus for the apocalyptic-minded!
Yeah, I'm not impressed with my order of execution:

    1) Buy BP revolvers
    2) Learn how to use them
    3) Find a range nearby that allows BP
    4) Practice

but I'm seizing an opportunity. Saw both pieces last night, getting them both tonight. Hammer pull is HEAVY on these suckers - is that normal?

What do you mean by HEAVY? My friend's 1851 Navy has about the same hammer pull as my SAA clone. I can't give you a poundage, but I would say it not significantly more than a modern double action revolver.

I couldn't tell you numbers, but I can tell you that they're MUCH heavier than either of my Ruger SAs - Blackhawk and Vaquero.

I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Holy Jebus. What have I done?

I have named the Walker Colt "The Locomotive" simply based on the amount of metal used in its construction.

The Remington is quite pretty and elegant and gentlemanly.

The Walker is buttf*ck ugly, and I can't wait to shoot the damned thing.

Pics as soon as I can manage them.

The Walker was the .44 magnum of its day. Real men only need apply. Just pointing the beast requires rippling arm muscles that would make the muscle-beach crowd jealous!

Actually it was designed as a revolving horse pistol for cavalry, which is why it is so big. I think the original idea was to have it on a saddle holster rather than on a hip.

A more typical personal pistol in those days was a measly .31 caliber, which has ballistics similar to .22 LR. I think they figured out real fast that .31 wasn't going to hack it.

Congrats on the pistols. Of all the percussion revolvers, I think the Colt 1860 army has the sweetest lines, but the solid-framed Remington had all of the Colts beat for functionality.

Be aware when you fire the Walker. The loading lever often comes loose and dangle below the barrel from the heavy recoil. As a result, the ram rod connected to the lever will prevent the cylinder from rotating into the next shot.

    Congratulations on your new acquisition.

And of course, PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!!

Something that heavy has a recoil?

But yeah, I read about that and will probably tie or rubber band it off.

I've always wondered why a latch was never built into the gun in the first place.

My modest collection of retired Swiss police pistols. From left, Sig Sauer P228, P226, and P225.

The flash light and the knife are not standard Swiss issue. The lollipop might be.

Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Abusing Yellow is meant to be a labor of love, not something you sell to the highest bidder.
