I am partial to a good old fashioned 30-30 lever action or if I am contemplating more range, a 30-06 deer gun. Sure they lack volume, but they pack a wallop ive used a 30-30 to hull the engine block of a 351 cleveland V-8. if I have to choose a battle rifle M-16 or mini 14 or one of their clones

For pistols my browning hi-power in 40 S&W is stil the best shooting handgun I've ever fired

I can believe that, any machine shop worth it's salt would be building AR receivers.

No way. The best machine shop is putting out DSA receivers for the FAL clones. AR receivers are a distant second best if that.

when i lived in LI i was alowed to have any gun, ak , ar, mp5,(as long as it's semiauto) you name it. i had 5 ak's one time. the best one was slr 95, it was more accurate, never jamed, it was made much better than any of them, and it's not an opinion it's a fact.
I can back you up on this one.

I ran into a gentelman at a local gun store. Judging by his accent, he was either eastern European or Russian. He said he was in the military and had fought all over the world in the 80s and 90s, mainly in South America if I remember correctly. He was looking at some AKs in the store. He said the best AKs are the ones with milled receivers. He grabbed 2 AKs, I think one was Bulgarian with milled receiver and the other could have been an Egyption or Romanian, and showed me the difference. He said it's against his religion to own any AK that doesn't have a milled receiver.

This is when I found out what a good AK is and what a normal AK is. Then there are those crappy AKs.

    Omon,

The fit and finish on those Bulgarian pimp cannons is certainly top notch.

However, from a manufacturing and field service standpoint, I think that the milled receiver is not such a hot idea.

    Hi Guys,

Favorite is a difficult concept when most weapons, especially military weapons, are all very, very, good.

Of all the weapons I have handled and fired, and that is a very populous list I assure you, I would have to say that the most utility and amusement has come from any Colt, Ruger or Smith & Wesson medium frame, double action revolver with a round butt and a barrel of four inches or less.

Portable, reliable and accurate 200 meter perimeter weapons and very economical to boot. Very wide choice of ammunition in the standard chamberings with capabilities to match any scenario or game.

A really close second for me would be the 1873 Colt Army revolver. This is a real winner and lends itself to all sorts of applications even at this late date.

I have to agree with that. My favorite gun that I have ever owned or shot, in a realistic utility sense, was a medium frame 357mag revolver by Taurus, model 686 to be exact. It had a 6" barrel. It was accurate. Ammunition was cheap and easy to reload. A wide variety of available types of ammunition from 38 special to 357 magnum with some fancy hollow point. It's nearly impossible to jam a revolver. The only draw back was low capacity at 6 rounds.

yep revolvers are the great invention. my favorite is a taurus .357 8rd cylinder, and unfortunatly it takes so much paperwork in nyc to get a new handgun that i don't even bother, a friend of mine has one. i always "conficate" it when we go to the range together. in return i let him "conficate" my ruger p94.

Even so, American AK receivers are bad to the point of being dangerous. I would know first-hand.

Only AK I've handled was a Romanian model, at first I thought the reciever was crap because it wouldnt load the round with a simple ****, until I found out it was a defective magazine, got a new one and it worked beautifully. Pretty accurate and chambered for 5.56. Low recoil and sturdy construction, I would say that Romanian Ak's arent poorly made from my experience but then again im no expert.

    Tell that to Olympic Arms...

I have personally toured their shop, and they are a "distant second" to no one.

My SAR-1 is a perfectly functioning piece of equipment. I'd trust my life with that weapon, and probably no other.
