Christian Action Committee meeting: Christians condemn mob attack in Chungi

    Staff Report

LAHORE: The mob attack on Christians in Chungi Amer Sidhu on September 10 has been condemned by members of the Punjab Assembly, councillors, lawyers and representatives of churches and Christian organisations in a meeting organised by the Christian Action Committee for the incident, on Thursday. “We condemn all individuals and organisations that mislead the people and manipulated the facts to misrepresent Younis Masih and the incident,” stated the resolution adopted by the participants. “We also condemn the baseless blasphemy case against Younis Masih,” it said.

The resolution stated that on the evening of September 9, Younis Masih requested Qawali singers at his Christian neighbour Baba Chabay’s house not to sing loudly because his nephew had died. Baba Chabay and the Muslim men listening to the Qawali quarrelled with him and beat up his cousin Faisal Masih.

On the evening of September 10, states the resolution, about 40 Muslim men looking for Younis found him in a billiard club and thrashed him with sticks. They also hit his wife Meena when she tried to intervene and her clothes were torn. Younis’ cousin Noble Masih accompanied them to the Factory Area police station to register a complaint. While the Station House Officer made them wait, announcements were made in Mosques urging Muslims to attack Christian houses because a Christian man had committed blasphemy.

Rather flimsy reasons to muster folks through the bullhorn to attack a Christian.

How is requesting the Quawali singers to tone down a blasphemy?

    This is rather confusing!

Anybody can post the blasphemy edict of the Hudood so that one could see what's the correct interpretation of the blasphemy clause in the Hudood?

"Some have learnt many Tricks of sly Evasion, Instead of Truth they use Equivocation, And eke it out with mental Reservation, Which is to good Men an Abomination."

I don't have to attend every argument I'm invited to.
