  • Pak informs India for a ballistic missile test in one week

    http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/a...ow/1206146.cms

NEW DELHI: Pakistan will test ballistic missile next week. Putting into operation a newly minted agreement on advance notification of such tests, Pakistan has informed India that it intends to put a ballistic missile through its paces.

The specifications are not known, because the agreement does not bind either side to a detailed description of the missile. In March, Pakistan successfully tested a long-range nuclear-capable missile — the Shaheen II, with a range of 2,000 km (1,250 miles).

The agreement, which was clinched only a couple of weeks ago by both sides, had been in the making for some time, building on the memorandum of understanding arrived at during the Lahore summit in 1999. This time, Pakistan had suggested to India that cruise missiles be included in the agreement but India had declined.

Thus it was a surprise when, only days after the agreement was inked, Pakistan went ahead with its first cruise missile test. Named Babur, after the first Mughal emperor, the nuclear-capable cruise missile marked a significant technological leap for Pakistan. Since cruise missiles were not part of the agreement, India could hardly complain when Pakistan did not notify it in advance. Nevertheless it struck a sour note in the government here.

Pakistan’s cruise test was also important in that it was a clear signal to India that Islamabad was not fazed by India’s proposed acquisition of a ballistic missile defence system, since cruise missiles defy radars. It was also an answer to India’s Brahmos missile. There are strong suspicions in India that Babur is an imported missile, particularly as Pakistan had the confidence to test it over inhabited territory.
Remote chances, but what if Pak tests the Ghauri-III before India gets to test its Agni-III? Imagine the pressure for India to hurry up with its testing then? :D

Although I don't see it happening. Probably testing its frontline Ghauri I and Shaheen Is. Perhaps something even smaller.

I kind of hope Pakistan tests the Ghauri-3 sooner so that our idiot politicians realize that they have to take military issues more seriously. Thats the only way to make politicians in India get stuff done.

Stated atleast twice that Agni III has been postponed due to technical reasons. Nothing much politicians can do there.

As speculated, Agni III would be a complete new design and not just an increment of Agni series. So delay is expected.

Yeah, but politicians are hte ones who lay aside the funds for htese projects. If they did that properly, we would not be having so much trouble with the Arjun and Kaveri.

IMO, Indian scientists need to be a little less perfectionists. It's all about taking some few clever risks. The first Agni itself was delayed a whole lot.

Its mainly the government and sometimes the army(they screwed up the Arjun program by constantly changing their requirements). I doubt the scientists are the main reason why some programs get delayed. The problem is that the funds get thrown all over hte place by politicians and the military guys aren't very flexible(the Arjun isn't as small as they wanted it to be, so they just gave up on it).

I dont think you have a hint about the various problems in financing strategic missiles like the Agni.

Hint : IA's money for 75 Prithvis went to the Agni purse. And the world still believed we spent it on Prithvis.

I so hope it is the Ghauri III, i dont mind Pakistan being the cockier of the bunch for a while but it will give our institutions a kick in the ass and then watch how fast the ADS and Vikramaditya are ready, when the ATV is ready and how fast the 124 MCRA are bought.....

IMO firing missiles with out revealing CEP just makes me think that all these tests are just nothing but a hogwash.

                    Asim,
Can you post some predicted CEP data for Pakistani missiles?

                            Developing weapon systems take time.

Changing names of tested weapon systems does not.

You can go see the CEP of Chinese and Korean missiles and make them equal to their respective Pakistani missiles.
