20 million civilian firearms in Pakistan (legal and illegal). The Pakistani Army (regforce and reserves) number at 1.2 million. Do the math.

If India is not actively trying to hack China, your entire intelligence apparatus should be fired.

      Disaster.

Agree. Forget offensive hacking, our cyber defence is in the hands of babus, who at the age of 50+ lack any practical knowledge of simple terms such as data security. They would use an infected pen drive and moves mp3s, porn, pics etc from cyber cafes -> home PC -> office workstations. I really worry that the Government hasn't given any thought to it. Our politicians are of the opinion that Google/Microsoft opening offices here are akin to automatic data security.

We have the NIC, which has its own network, data centres, and delivers IT services to the Government. NIC used to maintain a lot of cyber-cafes in remote areas with good speeds earlier, don't know if they still do. They hired a commerce graduate friend of mine, with a salary of INR 4000, which is slight more than $50 in today's terms in the year 2000. I used to go there at night, and download all sort of things. There was no security software installed on the machines.

So you see, the government thinks they can manage cyber threats with commerce graduates who know nothing about IT security and safeguard critical infrastructure. The same thing happens at the core of NIC. Recruitment of people in NIC enlists the same processes as clerks are recruited, they are paid very poorly, don't have enough technical knowledge, all in all a disaster waiting to happen.

Let me make a prediction, one day India will be hacked so badly, that it will hurt for a decade. I just hope our battle plans are offline.
