Mass shootings at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand

This is really bad. 49 dead, 20 injured. Prayers for the dead.

49 dead, another 48 wounded. Shot in the back when praying.

For a country of just 4 million, i imagine these numbers must come as a huge shock for Kiwis.

Times those victims by a factor of five(?) to scale up for an Indian context and its quite scary.

If people are after some scale for this, the figures are awful.

An Australian equivalent would be around 250 dead in a single day. That hasn't happened since WW2.

For a US equivalent this would be 3400 dead. September 11 was just shy of 3000.

If this was in India the death toll would be 13,500. I don't know if there is an equivalent event in Indian history.

We are getting 24/7 coverage here and it is heatbreaking. All the more so because one of those involved is an Australian citizen. New Zealand an Australia are siblings - closer in most respects than Canada & the US. They are our friends and neighbours, quite literally - few Australians would pass through life without living, working or socialising with our kiwi brothers and sisters. When our PM spoke yesterday the emotion in his face was clear. They are us.

Too sad to talk more about this now. I'm just hoping the death toll climbs no further.

Disgusted, hurt and disappointed! I can't begin to comprehend the level of mental gymnastics required to make sense of how any person with any sense of morality can stoop to this. The fuck wanted undeserved attention for a cooked up cause by justifying his heinous actions through a made up threat. The live stream, the meme usage, and the "manifesto" - all attention seeking... What kind of person broadcasts live a murder spree to a cheering audience? Every person watching that live stream who failed to notify the police needs to be made an example of. Also, not sure how he, a foreign national, was able to acquire the weaponry needed for the attack. Needs to be put in solitary for life...
