Florida man tells cops he didn't drink while driving,
    only at stop signs

INDIAN COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) - Now, we all know "drinking and driving" is a criminal offense, but what if your car is in stationary? Can you still have a few sips?

    No. No, you can't.

Earle Stevens Jr. of Vero Beach learned this the hard way last month.

The 69-year-old was pulled over at a McDonald's drive-thru on June 27 after a woman said a vehicle behind her kept hitting her rear bumper.

According to TCPalm, Stevens said he’s never had a valid Florida driver's license and deputies noticed an open bottle of liquor in the passenger seat of his car. Deputies said Stevens smelled of alcohol and said he felt "pretty good."

He also told deputies he was drinking Jim Beam bourbon from the bottle found in the passenger seat, then gave arguably the worst (or best) excuse ever.

“He further explained that he was not drinking while the car was moving and only when he stopped for stop signs and traffic signals,” the arrest affidavit states.

Once in custody, Stevens blew a blood alcohol content reading of 0.153 and 0.147, which is above the 0.08 legal limit.

Stevens said he’d had two earlier DUI charges from Missouri.

Isn't the guy correct technically when he says that he drank only at traffic signals and stop signs? Lol.

The more you tax something, the less economic activity is produced. And economic activity is what attracts people who want to improve their lives.

Even Florida Man is smart enough to figure that one out

Fugative Florida man found naked in New York chicken coop

                      June 06, 2019
                      Bradenton Herald

A 25-year-old Sarasota, Florida man is facing multiple charges after a bizarre series of events in Kirkwood, New York on Tuesday.

Sarasota resident John Mehne faces charges of criminal possession of stolen property and cruelty to animals after a seven-hour manhunt stemming from Mehen crashing a stolen vehicle. The search ended with officers finding Mehne naked inside a chicken coop.

According to a WFLA report from the Associated Press, New York State Police say he crashed a stolen Audi A5 on Interstate 81 — a vehicle he stole in Florida.

That was the first event of a long series of strange events.

According to Spectrum News, Mehne attempted to jump into the back of a passing pickup truck following the crash, but failed. He then fled into the woods where he wound up in his first chicken coop and was seen by the homeowner killing chickens.

When confronted, Mehne allegedly picked up an ax and chased off the homeowner, stole an ATV and drove about two miles down the road where he broke into a home and killed a dog.

Mehne fled that scene and police eventually caught up to Mehne when he was seen naked in the second chicken coop.

He was arraigned Wednesday and remained in jail without bond. Police had little more to offer as to Mehne’s intent or state of mind as he refused to speak without a lawyer present.

The high school teacher across the street from me tells the story of how schools are coping with COVID-19: very, very badly.
                          • Two students stop showing up.
                          • Teacher emails parents, who say the kids (unrelated) are home with COVID, and the school has been informed.
                          • School did not bother to tell the kids' teachers.
                          • One teacher tests positive from this incident.

I think the school admin qualifies as Florida (Wo)Man.

USPS mail carriers stealing or otherwise tampering with mail on their delivery route seems as dumb as it is dishonest. Its not as if a Postal Inspector would have any difficulty connecting the missing mail, the address, and the mail carrier assigned to work that route.

                            20 October 2020

MIAMI (AP) -- A U.S. Postal Service carrier is accused of stealing a Miami-Dade County mail-in ballot, 10 gift cards and four prepaid debit cards earlier this month, federal authorities said.

A federal complaint filed by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General said that between Oct. 5 and 16, Crystal Nicole Myrie "embezzled letters, postal cards and mail which came into her possession intended to be carried or delivered by her," the Miami Herald reported.

The mail-in ballot had been sent to a resident by the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Office on Oct. 6, the complaint said.

Myrie made her first appearance in federal court on Monday. An attorney for Myrie was not listed on the court docket, and it wasn't immediately clear whether she entered a plea.

On Friday, two postal inspector agents questioned Myrie, who admitted to stealing several prepaid debit cards that were supposed to be delivered to a customer on her route and using them at retail stores, the newspaper reported.

After the interview, the investigators told Myrie she would have to turn in her postal identification, the Herald reported. She told them the ID was in her car in the parking lot. They asked if there was mail or any other items in her car and at first she told them no. She then changed her answer to yes.

"Upon approaching the vehicle, (one agent) observed, in plain view through a rear window, several postal service satchels containing white envelopes in the back seat of Myrie's personal vehicle," according to the complaint. "Myrie is not authorized to deliver mail from her personal vehicle."

The two postal inspector agents searched her car and found "undelivered mail for the zip code serviced by Myrie" in Miami Beach, the complaint said.

They also found 36 political flyers and 150 other pieces of mail in her vehicle, the newspaper reported.

"By stealing (the victim's) vote-by-mail ballot, Myrie deprived (the victim) of her right to vote," the complaint said.

Myrie "admitted that she has been stealing mail sporadically (on her route) for almost two years," the complaint said.

DAVIE, Fla. – A man who paid $150 for a “full-contact experience” with a black leopard says he had to undergo multiple surgeries after he was mauled by the fully-grown animal in an enclosure behind a Davie home.

A picture obtained by Local 10 News shows Dwight Turner’s heavily bandaged head and ear after the savage attack, which detectives from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say happened behind a home on Earnest Boulevard on Aug. 31.

The man who lives there, identified as Michael Poggi, has a Facebook page saying he runs an animal sanctuary for rare and endangered animals.

Investigators say Poggi charged the 50-year-old Turner $150 for a “full-contact experience” with his black leopard — to “play with it, rub its belly and take pictures.”

FWC’s report says that once Turner walked inside the enclosure, the leopard attacked.

The injuries were so severe, the report says the victim’s scalp was “hanging from his head and his right ear was torn in half.”

Authorities say Poggi was charged with allowing full contact with an extremely dangerous animal and was cited for maintaining captive wildlife in an unsafe condition.

Attempts to speak to Poggi at his home have been unsuccessful.

Authorities say he is licensed to have the leopard. They say Poggi admitted to them what he did was illegal.
