  • Pompeo backs India to ‘deal with’ Pakistan, China | Daily Tribune | Jun 13 2019

“Under President Trump, we have taken our defence cooperation to new heights solidifying our common vision in the Indo-Pacific and has taken a far tougher stance on Pakistan’s unacceptable support for terrorism,” Pompeo told the India Ideas Summit in Washington on Wednesday.

“We respect India as a truly sovereign, important country, with its own unique politics and its own unique strategic challenges,” he said, adding: “We realise it’s different to deal with the likes of China and Pakistan from across the ocean than it is when they are on your borders.”
Don't see the word self-defense in there so i'm guessing 'deal with' means no US interference in Pakistans' favour like in the past.

    • After the Pulwama attack, Bolton supported India's right to self defense. So yeah, no more support to the terrorist entity. I don't think India should ask for support to retaliate everytime the Paks provoke us with an attack. It should be instantaneous. An attack happens on an Army convoy, or on the border, we send jets and level a couple of Pakistani border posts.

US wants to leave Afghanistan, so they want the talks with Taliban. Pakistan doesn't want the US to leave Afghanistan (keep the US trapped in that quicksand), so the talks are carrying on and on, while the Pakistan Army dispatches suicide bombers and jihadis with AKs to kill ANA and Afghan civilians. The day US leaves Afghanistan, the noose will start tightening around Pakistan. That is, terroristan's downfall would have really started. The Pakistanis cannot always fool the Americans. America always retaliates, and when they do against Pakistan, it will be like Thor's hammer falling down on the Pakistan Army, the ISI and all their terrorist groups, a.k.a Pakistani Army without uniforms.

      • Pak stumbles again, fails to satisfy terror-financing watchdog FATF

Pakistan has failed to complete 25 of the 27 action points given by the international terror financing watchdog FATF to check funding to terrorist groups such as LeT and JeM and frontal groups like Jamat-ud-Dawah and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation.

With this, multilateral lenders like the IMF, the World Bank and the EU may continue downgrading Pakistan, making its financial situation more precarious.

          • Masarat Alam revealed rift among Kashmiri separatists on funds, says NIA

Pakistan-based agents route the funds through ‘hawala’ operators which were transferred to the separatist leaders, says agency
Masarat Alam, the “poster boy” of stone-pelters and violent agitations in Kashmir valley, has revealed that there is a rift among the separatists regarding collection and use of funds pumped through the ‘hawala’ route, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has claimed.

The NIA claimed in a press statement that Alam revealed in his custodial interrogation that “Pakistan-based agents route the funds through ‘hawala’ operators which were transferred to the separatist leaders, including Syed Ali Shah Gilani, Chairman, All Parties Hurriyat Conference. Masarat Alam also revealed that there are rifts in the Hurriyat Conference regarding collection and use of funds.”

The agency said these revelations were in continuation of a terror funding probe in a case registered by the agency in 2017.

NIA arrested Yasin Malik, leader of proscribed organisation Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, Asiya Andrabi, leader of proscribed organisation Duktaran-e-Milat, Separatist leader Shabir Shah of the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) and Masrat Alam of the Muslim League earlier this month. All the four accused were taken into police custody for interrogation. They were already behind bars in other cases registered against them by the NIA and the Enforcement Directorate.

According to the NIA, Malik also confessed that the Joint Resistance Leadership and the Gilani faction of the Hurriyat Conference “collected funds from the business community as well as certain other sources and ensured that economic shut down and violent protests continue to disrupt the daily life of common citizens in the Kashmir Valley in 2016”.

After Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter in July 2016, there was wide unrest in the Valley.

“During interrogation, Yasin Malik revealed that he was instrumental in bringing together the disparate factions of the Hurriyat Conference and formed the JRL, which spearheaded the violent agitations in 2016 in Kashmir Valley by issuing ‘protest calendars’, leading to economic shutdown for over four months and also caused death and injuries to civilians and security forces during the violent protests,” the NIA said.

In 2017, the NIA arrested Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Ahmad Watali as one of the main suspects in the terror funding probe.

            Shell companies
The agency had then said that Watali was one of the main ‘hawala’ conduit who used to generate and receive funds from Pakistan’s ISI, the UAE, and had floated various shell companies to disguise foreign remittances for further transfer to separatist leaders and stone-pelters in the Valley.

Asiya Andrabi reportedly admitted “that she had been collecting funds and donations from foreign sources and the aran-e-Milat had been organising protests by Muslim women in the Valley,” the NIA alleged.

The agency also claimed that “Andrabi was confronted with evidence regarding funding of educational expenses of her son in Malaysia from 2011 onwards through foreign remittances made by Zahoor Watali.”

“NIA has already approached the authorities concerned for providing evidence relating to certain bank accounts used by Asiya Andrabi’s son while he was studying in the University,” NIA said.

Regarding Shabir Shah, the NIA said “during custodial interrogation he was confronted with evidence relating to transfer of money by Pakistan-based agents and representatives of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference factions to parties affiliated to the Hurriyat in J&K.”

“He was also confronted about his investments in various hotels and businesses in Pehalgam, properties in Jammu, Srinagar and Anantnag. Evidence regarding many of his ‘benami’ properties is being collected. He was confronted with some of his personal staff and associates who have provided vital information regarding the sources fund raising and investment details. Investigation into these aspects is under way,” the NIA said.

On May 30, 2017, the agency registered a case against terrorists belonging to the Jamat-ud-Dawah, the Duktaran-e-Millat, the Lashkar-e-Toiba, the Hizbul-Mujahideen and other separatist leaders in J&K for raising receiving and collecting funds for funding separatist and terrorist activities in the State and entering into a larger conspiracy for causing disruption in the Valley and for waging war against India.

During the investigation conducted so far, the NIA has charge sheeted 13 accused, including Hafiz Mohammad Saeed (leader of Jamat-ud-Dawah), Syed Salahuddin (head of proscribed organisation Hizbul-Mujahideen), seven second rung separatist leaders, two ‘hawala’ conduits and some stone-pelters.

              • Ok, so there is good news here after all. i was thinking this whole FATF thing would fall by the way side after they got their IMF loan

Pakistan is in deep trouble at the FATF meeting beginning Sunday in Florida in the US, people aware of the development said.

"It has been unable to complete 25 of its 27 action points. It has one last chance, till its 15-month deadline ends in October 2019, when the FATF Plenary will be held," one of them added.

In June 2018, Pakistan was placed in the 'Gray' list and given a 27-point action plan by FATF. This plan was reviewed at the last plenary in October 2018 and for the second time in February this year, when the country was again put into the 'Gray' list after India submitted new information about Pakistan-based terrorist groups.

The FATF continuing Pakistan in the 'Gray' list means its downgrading by IMF, World Bank, ADB, EU and also a reduction in risk rating by Moody's, S&P and Fitch.

This will add to the financial problems of Pakistan, which is seeking aid from all possible international avenues.
Now the deadline is Oct 2019. Now let's see how they try to escape.

ADB distances itself from govt’s budget support claim

The issue with the Pakistanis here is that American approval is needed for these loans. The Pakistanis can't get to stop their terrorist activity, hence behind the scenes bargaining must be going on. In a way, Trump has been a god sent for some issues. Devil sent for some. The world needs another 4-5 years to figure how things pan out.

News reports gave me the impression that it was forthcoming. You could tell there was some difference compared to three months ago.

US tax payer foots the bill for IMF loans so Pompeo was saying that they should not be used to pay off Chinese debt. Then this Afghan thing is going on and the americans are squeezing the Paks to get a deal with the Taliban. So we started to think that an acceptable Afghan deal equals IMF loan.

See I read Pak english prints, but I take news from those ISPR scripted media with a truckload of salt. Those Goebbels are still saying they shot down 2 IAF jets, and that the Balakote air-strike never happened. Having said so, I was also under the impressions that a deal was close, but I didn't see any forward movement in talks with the Taliban. In any case the Taliban has upped their attacks in Afghanistan. The Pakistan Army & ISI is resisting their Jihadi complex to be shutdown, and all measures we read in the media is a facesaver for the PA. PA thinks they can fool the world like they have always done, well, their script is no longer selling.

India should sort out the differences with US on trade, put up men and machines in Afghanistan, as for give and take we should be clear that Indian Defense forces reserves the right to march inside Pakistan if needed, and we expect support. Time has come to tell the civilized world, either they are with us or against us.

Pakistan and IMF Reach Loan Deal | WSJ | May 12 2019

The International Monetary Fund has agreed to lend Pakistan $6 billion to bail it out of a balance-of-payments crisis, ending months of negotiations amid a slumping economy.
                            You've seen this news. Now...

The IMF deal should open the way to $2 billion to $3 billion in lending from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, Mr. Shaikh said.
And then we get the below..

One month ago, this was the thinking, this author also thinks the IMF deal is coming through. He quotes the official source

what does staff level agreement mean ?? not through until management approves ??

This agreement is subject to IMF management approval and to approval by the Executive Board, subject to the timely implementation of prior actions and confirmation of international partners’ financial commitments.

                            • ^ Leave aside print news for a moment. Can Pakistan get the IMF loan without US approval? If it's a NO, then we know what's going on behind the scenes. Sticks, and only sticks for Pakistan. Verbal for the moment though.

I want to reiterate what I have always said. Pakistani terror industry doesn't need alms from the IMF, ADB, KSA, China or the US. The Pakistan Army's hold on its economy is enough for them to pursue their terrorist agenda in India & Afghanistan. This is not going to change, unless.

Is it going to be a NO though ? that isn't clear either

There was a report in December 2017 that "sermons are given on Jihad ... The basic tenets of religion are overlooked and emphasis is laid on radical aspects. Such religious sermons have a deep psychological impact on inmates and youths in particular who develop inclination towards joining militancy or getting recruited as overground workers (for terrorists)."

It said the jail, which is expected to act as a correctional facility, is "instead being used as a place of religious indoctrination and militant recruitment".
                                Unbelievable. Just crazy.
