Held off going to sleep last night to watch the first half of England v Panama. Five English goals. Bloody hell! Panama are crap, but England really shredded them. Could be interesting in the later rounds.

I'm not wildly surprised that Colombia crushed Poland. They are a better team than the Japan game - Japan were lucky Colombia went a man down early. Pity that one of Colombia or Senegal have to go home.

That's the thing. 5-0 AND by half time. Crazy. Two penalties in there but they were well deserved

i wonder if the same thing said about Russia applies to England too. Not been tested yet ?

This is a young english side and i recognise only a handful of names from earlier tournaments. In a way there is less pressure because nobody is expecting them to to go as far as the bigger names that played earlier who never did.

The one thing thing that amazed me, is 6 goals down, Panama scores their first ever goal at the cup and their fans celebrate like they won the match

Pity that one of Colombia or Senegal have to go home.
Agree, but at least one Asian team gets through. Out of all Asia just four can qualify and three are out

Oz isn't getting out of the group stages. So not much representation from this rather large unrepresented part of the world : (

Its a euro and south american party, unless Senegal can somehow sneak through

2026 they want to increase qualification from 32 to 48 teams. Wonder if its only a rumour

Not a rumour. US, Canada & Mexico will be hosting. If India gets a berth, football and money will explode here.

Australia gone and rightly so. Not good enough.

Pity about Argentina getting through. Their game with France will be good. Croatia looking solid. The second round already looks interesting.

The cup holders are out, the runners up just squeaked through

Germany's unlikely performance reminds of Spain at the last cup. They too as cup holders went out in the qualifiers. And then there is France in '02, same story

Korea did fantastic, by winning against Germany they helped Mexico through. But Mexico let Korea down.

To qualify Korea needed to beat Germany by two goals which they got AND mexico had to beat Sweden.

Which given Mexico's earlier performance seemed like a given

Japan progresses to the round of 16 because of fair play. This means Japan had fewer bookings than Senegal

Knockouts have begun. France v Argentina both level at half time... 1 - 1

The next half was explosive with FIVE goals scored. France coming back from a goal down to score three, argentina gets one in the dying minutes and loses

    4 -3

    Fantastic!

And the runner up from the last world cup bites the dust

Can France make it to the final based on this performance

    New world order afoot?

Argentinian defence looked weak, and France went past. Good show and a very thrilling match. Viva la France!

Uruguay v Portugal has started well with Uruguay one up over the current Euro cup holders in only a few minutes after the whistle

And the Euro cup holders are going back after losing 2-1

it's pretty sad to see Cavani limp off the field after his two exquisite goals. Looks like his cup is over and chances of Uruguay advancing past the quarter finals stage are slim

Spain somehow still managed to lose after this domination. Biggest upset after Germany vs SoKo?

Germany was a bigger upset but not really out of pattern

Spain should have found the net and ended the game. I was half expecting them to do that in the last ten minutes and just kill Russia.

    Never happened
