From prison to the frontlines: Thousands of Russian convicts sent to fight in Ukraine
    (08 min, 12 sec)

Russia sent hundreds of thousands of troops into its war in Ukraine and suffered immense casualties. Some were drawn from prisons, both officially and through a private military company called the Wagner Group. With the support of the Pulitzer Center, Simon Ostrovsky and Yegor Troyanovsky traveled to a Ukrainian prisoner of war camp and met men faced with a stark choice, prison or the frontlines.

I would counter...Spain is making this equality for government positions. Equality in government is important I believe to represent the full population and serve the people the best. But for private companies, be they CEOs or ditchdiggers, that is a matter for the private sector. If someone feels aggrieved, then they can sue and look for redress that way.

Also for minorities in the US, government jobs were the pathway to the middle class for much of the African American community here. Same for many in the Hispanic communities. Not sure how this will playout in Spain.

How ’15-minute cities’ became a lockdown conspiracy
            (04 min, 40 sec)

To reduce carbon emissions and meet climate goals, politicians in Oxford are attempting to restrict the number of times some vehicles can drive through the city each year while still allowing unlimited access via the City's ring road.

The city also has a long-term plan to be a 15-minute city, where food, medicine, education, and leisure facilities are all within a 15-minute walk or cycle from someone’s front door.

This plan has been conflated with its traffic-restriction trial by conspiracy theories that present the measures as a form of climate lockdown.

Newsnight’s Science Correspondent Kate Lamble reports on how a conspiracy theory about "15-minute cities" became tangled with some people's real concerns over the measures.

Russia and Iran Sign Declaration to Overcome 'Illegal' US Sanctions
                (0 min, 20 sec)

Russia and Iran on Tuesday signed a declaration which they said will help overcome "illegal" US sanctions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Speaking in Moscow Lavrov said it is "an important step in increasing the coordination of efforts by members of the world community to overcome illegal sanctions, which the United States and its allies have made a substitute for diplomacy."

The White House voiced concern that Iran may provide Russia with ballistic missiles for use in its military campaign against Ukraine, a development that likely would be disastrous for the Ukrainian people, a US national security official said.

Last May, the White House said Russia was interested in buying additional advanced attack drones from Iran for use in the Ukraine conflict after it used up most of the 400 drones it had previously purchased from Tehran.
