    France: Hostage Crisis in Trčbes.

Armed male suspect has taken hostages at a supermarket, reportedly killed two and wounded some others. Has "declared allegiance" to ISIL, though ISIL has yet to claim credit for the attack.

The situation seems to have been a continuation of an earlier incident where the suspect shot at policemen that were out on a jog.

France hostage crisis: Police shoot supermarket gunman

Armed police have shot a suspect who took hostages at a supermarket in the southern France town of Trčbes.

The gunman, who is reported to have killed three people, is now dead, sources say.

Reports say the gunman, believed to be Moroccan, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

Earlier, a policeman was shot and wounded while jogging with colleagues in Carcassonne 15 minutes away, by the same suspect.

The suspect was said to be heavily armed and demanding the release of Salah Abdeslam, the most important surviving suspect in the 13 November 2015 attacks in Paris, which killed 130 people.

Reports say the suspect was known to French intelligence services and that his mother is at the scene.

Suspect killed after French police raid. Official figures are at three victims in total killed. ISIL has taken credit.

This could easily have been far worse, great counterterror response by French authorities.

France to honor 'hero' policeman who died in terrorist attack

The French policeman, Arnaud Beltrame, who voluntarily swapped places with a hostage during a siege on a supermarket in the town of Trebes will be remebered in a national tribute to be held at a later date. The gendarme died on Friday as a result of his bullet injuries.

"He fell as a hero, giving up his life to halt the murderous rampage of a jihadist terrorist," President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement shortly before dawn on Saturday. He "deserved the respect and admiration of the whole nation."

French police have detained a 17-year-old in connection with the probe into the terror attack that killed four people, including Beltrame.

The man is a friend of Friday's attacker, identified by prosecutors as Redouane Lakdim, a 25-year-old Moroccan-born French national. Lakdim was killed in a shootout at the supermarket.

Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said on Friday another person, a woman close to Lakdim, was taken into custody over alleged links to the terror attack. Molins didn't identify her.

Yes, a great response by obviously well trained men. A definite counterpoint to those politicos, and others, who like to make jokes about the French military which have always made me uncomfortable. The men and women of the French Armed Forces and police forces clearly do not deserve that disrespect.

    16 injured

Why do say it could be worse, despite the opener saying he was heavily armed all he had was a 9mm pistol which he already used to shoot at some cops jogging

Just one guy, no bomb, no machine gun. He threatened to blow the place up, with what though. He had no explosives.

This is a super market not some bus or plane.

    Lone wolf.

France has a lost a couple hundred plus people to terrorism since 2015 though, that number is high when it wasn't there before
