  • Justin Trudeau's excellent Indian adventure

    https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/9...up-in-his-face

Why did Justin Trudeau go to India? I am sure at this point that even the prime minister has been asking himself that question all week.

Kudos to India. Slap the stupid grin off his face. Although India is wrong about one thing, Trudeau isn't advocating for an independent Khalistan in India, he just didn't figured out a legal way to give Vancouver to the Sikh militants yet.

Such a bizarre trip. Almost a feeling of trying too hard. If only Harper was still in office.

The part we can't figure out is why is he even listening to a dead cause. if Tronic was here he'd give you the story. The reasoning put forward by a former envoy is

transfer of insignificance leading to hyperactivity towards the country they left

Immigrants from many countries in Canada, you mean to tell me he's going to get into their national dress ever time he visits thieir countries ?

And then there was this convicted guy that shot a visiting indian minister from years ago who just so happened to join his party here (!)

Tring too hard to do what? He only got a half day to do any government business (today), the rest were sight seeing. The last time this twerp was in India, he commented that his father, then Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, was too busy to snap family pictures and doing government business. This pretend King didn't take a hint.

I knew that he was going to be schooled during his term as PM but I didn't know just how naive this dork is.

To appeal to people here and his vote bank at home.

After his third day dressed up as bridegroom every one heaved a sigh of relief that he was in a normal suit the next day : D

So this really was a sightseeing tour, business planned for the last day. Figured we'd have a good deal to talk about that just half a day

Nuke supplies from Canada ? no problem. We've yet to get that sorted out with the Aussies.

heh, they used to think this abut Indira when she first entered office in the late 60s. She used to be quiet so nobody had a clue what she would amount to

Canada will be fine, what major crisis is this guy going to have to deal with in a hurry anyway ?

Kennedy got whacked with the bay of pigs disaster 3 months into his term and Nikita was playing him like a fiddle

                    Why patronise these people ?

Trudeau has been as wrong about Sikhs as Pakistan’s ISI & our own AAP | The Print | Feb 22 2018

for all his brilliance and charm, he also bought the lemon that most Sikhs are radical, that he could ignore Indian sensitivities. More importantly, that he and his Sikh cabinet colleagues could establish a relationship of their own with Punjab, ignoring and humiliating its duly elected chief minister. Never mind that Punjab is a state in a sovereign nation called India.

I hesitate and hate to say this about a powerful G-7 nation’s young leader so admired around the world. He has to be nuts to land himself in this jam. He has now been made to seek a meeting with Amarinder for himself first and then his ministers, make the statements on India’s unity that he could have made while setting out and avoided the humiliation. He may now also end up losing a bunch of the same coveted Sikh vote back to a rising young Sikh leader Jagmeet Singh who has claims to be more liberal, and more radical (as an immigrant Sikh) than Trudeau. So it’s poor politics and a lousy optics.

Punjab has come a very, very long way from the really bad days. Just how bad, I will remind you of in some writings I will share over these couple of days. Punjab, Sikhs and Hindus have all moved on now. The pre-eminent Sikh Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, has shared power thrice in a two-decade-long alliance with India’s biggest Hindu party, BJP. Punjab has elected Congress twice after the end of terrorism.

Punjab now is a state as normal as any other in India. The last thing anybody wants is a return to the bad old times. It’s a nightmare Punjabis want buried forever. If Trudeau returns wiser from this visit, he would impress just this upon his Sikh colleagues and voters.

Because he's a jerk with zero political backbone. He got elected on a popularity contest, not because he's politically ruthless. Harper was an extremely effective PM for Canada but he got boring. Gay rights were more exciting than a 2 percent rise in Standards of Living.

Father had an impressive record. Can't help thinking if Canada's culture is the way it is today and has been for long that PET had no small part to play in it.

Trudeau rose to prominence as a lawyer, intellectual, and activist in Quebec politics. In the 1960s he entered federal politics by joining the Liberal Party of Canada. He was appointed as Lester B. Pearson's Parliamentary Secretary and later became his Minister of Justice. Trudeau became a media sensation, inspiring "Trudeaumania", and took charge of the Liberals in 1968. From the late 1960s until the mid-1980s, his personality dominated the political scene to an extent never before seen in Canadian political life. Despite his personal motto, "Reason before passion", his personality and political career aroused polarizing reactions throughout Canada.

Admirers praise what they consider to be the force of Trudeau's intellect and his political acumen, maintaining national unity over the Quebec sovereignty movement, suppressing a Quebec terrorist crisis, fostering a pan-Canadian identity, and in achieving sweeping institutional reform, including the implementation of official bilingualism, patriation of the Constitution, and the establishment of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Critics accuse him of arrogance, of economic mismanagement, and of unduly centralizing Canadian decision-making to the detriment of the culture of Quebec and the economy of the Prairies. He retired from politics in 1984, and John Turner succeeded him.

His eldest son, Justin Trudeau, became the 23rd and current Prime Minister as a result of the 2015 federal election and is the first prime minister of Canada to be related to a former prime minister.

PET was a lousy economist but damned did he loved Canada and his Canada included Quebec BUT NOT because of Quebec. PET, in his one letter, torpedoed the Meech Lake Accords, that was designed to give Quebec a special say, read veto, over Canada.

Not to undermine PET's contribution but Canada was cheering the Montreal Canadienes and not the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Quick question: why does Trudeau have so many Sikh ministers?
