Trudeau's saving grace is that the Conservatives and the NDP have nicompoops for leaders. The simple fact is that this is the Changing of the Guard for all Parties. The old men of all 3 major parties have done their time and is leaving for the young to take over. Like the young everywhere, they all think they know more than the old guard leaving.

Trudeau just got slapped in the face by an old man. Kudos to Modi.

Following a subsquent link in the article, https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/62990466.cms, Trudeau is a friggin douchebag! This entire trip was planned as a sight seeing tour from the beginning! He created all this freaking mess in the first place!

The part about meeting Indian business leaders is correct though. The entire room would think they could play this idiot for the fool he is and that he will sell Canada out if they just put him on a poster.
According to your article, India managed to extract two concessions from Trudeau

          1) Trudeau to publicly renounce secession on Punjabi territory, hence the meeting with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh

          2) issuing one of the most strongly worded statements — devoted exclusively to terrorism — in recent times

Now see the take from the Hindu article

Before the trip began India wanted
          1) a shorter business oriented trip that began with an official meet right off the bat. Ottawa wanted the five day tour and business only at the end

          2) the delegation to exclude Canadian ministers suspected of sympathising with extremist Sikh groups in Canada, especially as they had already been in India controversially in the past few months — but Ottawa was adamant they be included

          3) for Mr. Trudeau to reach out to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh well ahead of the visit, as the latter had been denied a trip to Canada in 2016 and was understandably offended. But till his arrival, Mr. Trudeau’s office did not confirm a meeting with the Chief Minister.

I think the trip was salvaged by those two concessions

No, not a sight seeing tour, think re-election campaign. I thought your polls were in 2020 but actually they're next year. He's in campaign mode. This is the only coherent reason for putting off the official talks to the very end of the trip. Shows where his priorities are.

Did you see any of this nonsense when he was in China in Dec and i bet you won't see any with the upcoming trip to Japan ?

ok, so he couldn't get much out of the Chinese. Tell me which other leader can? Trump isn't getting very far. Only Burma. Burma can tell China to get lost and China will thank them : D

No, it wasn't. This entire trip is nothing short of a diplomatic disaster. A convicted terrorist got TWO invites to official parties. And the two statements amount to nothing. They're not laws nor treaties, just optics. Trudeau ran home with his tail between his legs. He got shamed. A tougher man could have shrugged this off and directly apologized to Modi but this boy who got by on his good looks just learned he shamed Canada.

It's unclear to me whether that guy required a visa to enter India or not. If he did then someone here better explain why India gave him that visa

Your opposition is going to bash him no matter what. That's their job.

Optics is fine, there was a ton of that. People here that aren't following too closely will have a good impression.

How did he shame Canada then ?

Mr Dressup wasn't paying attention and was more interested in clowning around to do the job he was elected to do; including looking out for the best interests of his own political party.

I knew he was going to make mistakes but this takes the cake. He was dressed as a clown 5 days running; not even portraying he was doing work. Canadians expects their PMs to work on official visits.

I don't know if we had access to the invites list. Didn't we only get to hear about this guy thanks to one of your journalists.

This means India had no objections or wasn't in a position to object. If we don't say anything the no flags got raised on your side.

There were photos with that guy and Trudeau earlier too. So his past isn't apparently a problem for Trudeau

Mr Dressup wasn't paying attention and was more interested in clowning around to do the job he was elected to do; including looking out for the best interests of his own political party.
You will find out what people think at the next polls. Whether this trip mattered or not

The meeting with the Punjab CM matters a great deal. Earlier it wasn't clear he would even meet given the CM snubbed your defense minister.

If Trudeau didn't meet him then no matter the reason it means Canada does not consider the Punjab CM as legitimate. That would be a major problem and a major victory for the separatists.

Most of Canada don't know who CM Singh is and most likely won't care either way. What got Canada's attention was the terrorist invite and then the public got disgusted with Trudeau's Mr Dressup antics and doing no work.

Guest list is vetted by the IB and R&AW. Either the Indian consulate officers in Canada are corrupt or the Canadians were short sighted. OR, could it be a BJP(Ram Madhav) stint to allow exiled Sikhs to come to India for talks. One article I posted clearly talks about rapprochement. OR, could it be a hatchet job by the agencies to ruin Justin Trudeau's India trip, and make him see that Khalistan might get him votes, but he won't get any favors from India with that appeasement attitude. It was a total disaster.

                              This is an interesting theory.
