  • You comment we will help build it but you maintain it... In Arkansas we have all sorts of state highways that are rutted pot holed 2 laners that used to be county roads that the county turned over to the state.

I just don't see gravel and seal coat being any harder to maintain than the rutted potholed asphalt on the light traffic volume roads.

    • FBI director puts responsibility for Porter on White House

FBI Director Christopher Wray said Tuesday that the bureau completed its background investigation of former White House staff secretary Rob Porter last year, contradicting the White House's assertion that the FBI “process” was ongoing.

Wray told lawmakers at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing that the FBI submitted a partial report to the White House in March on Porter, whose position involved access to the nation’s most sensitive secrets, and completed its scrub of the ex-aide’s background in late July.

I guess I was wrong. This isn't blowing over after a day after all.

Nobody cares, except the segment of the press still trying to milk this story. CNN has already progressed onto Stormy Daniels again.

        Progressed. Get it? :D

Nah, haven’t much experience with being wrong on the issues we discuss here.

For the record, I went to the Fed’s FRED data site and compared the gasoline component of CPI with real GDP growth, going back to 1968. No correlation, but some indication (inconclusive, so I didn’t mention it) the opposite way: prices dropping when GDP falls.

Curious that the closest thing is the opposite of your view.

Just so everyone’s clear, what data did you use to come to your conclusion?
Average gas prices vs. Retail sales, perhaps?
(Oops, that better supports my position than your. Your bad.)
          Trust me?

there's a reason why Trump is the most unpopular President in the history of the US...

I read that Cohen (Trump's lawyer) claimed to have given this Lady of circumspect repute a wedge of $s out of his own pocket - presumably not on his own behalf but for some reason connected to Trumpkins. Never heard such a ridiculous story; lawyers do not part with their own money on their clients behalf. It just does not happen - ever.

Except for the fact that it's evolved more broadly to the matter of interim security clearances, resulting in the exposure to scrutiny a wide range of people. There's going to be continued attrition in White House ranks because of this.

two separate issues-- the first being the Stormy Daniels thing which happened before his Presidency, and the second being an abusive staff secretary, with the WH staff trying to cover it up.

strippers and wife abuse, if there was an award for being the white-trashiest administration, this admin would win by a marathon.

                  • Yes I am aware of the differences - this Secretary's Wife beating and clearance etc and then this payment to some model/escort - only mentioned the latter and the fact that Trump's lawyer claimed to pay off this Lady out of his own pocket is an absurd story. Lawyers simply do not that.

Veterans Affairs chief Shulkin, staff misled ethics officials about European trip, report finds

Veterans Affairs Secretary David J. Shulkin’s chief of staff doctored an email and made false statements to create a pretext for taxpayers to cover expenses for the secretary’s wife on a 10-day trip to Europe last summer, the agency’s inspector general has found.

Vivieca Wright Simpson, VA’s third-most-senior official, altered language in an email from an aide coordinating the trip to make it appear that Shulkin was receiving an award from the Danish government, then used the award to justify paying for his wife’s travel, Inspector General Michael J. Missal said in a report released Wednesday. VA paid more than $4,300 for her airfare.

The account of how the government paid travel expenses for the secretary’s wife is one finding in an unsparing investigation that concluded that Shulkin and his staff misled agency ethics officials and the public about key details of the trip. Shulkin also improperly accepted a gift of sought-after tickets to a Wimbledon tennis match, the investigation found, and directed an aide coordinating the trip to act as what the report called a “personal travel concierge” to him and his wife.

“Although the [inspector general’s office] cannot determine the value VA gained from the Secretary and his delegation’s three and a half days of meetings in Copenhagen and London at a cost of at least $122,334, the investigation revealed serious derelictions by VA personnel,” the watchdog concluded.

                      • Looks like Trump is proposing a 25¢/gal increase in the federal fuel tax.

                        https://www.politico.com/story/2018/...gas-tax-409647

Which would bring the federal tax per gallon to 43.4¢ for gasoline and 49.4¢ for diesel. Add in the state average, 31¢ per gallon, and we're looking at an average of 74.4¢/gal for gasoline, and 80.4¢/gal for diesel under his proposal. Not that far off from the $1/gal mark.
