And any pardon would only apply to Federal Law. The State of New York would have jurisdiction over anything dome in Trump Tower that the State AG (whomever it becomes) could indict many of the Trumpinistas.

Judge sends Paul Manafort to jail, pending trial

Washington (CNN)Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort will await his trial for foreign lobbying crimes from jail.

Two weeks after Robert Mueller's prosecutors dropped new accusations of witness tampering on him, a federal judge Friday revoked Manafort's current bail, which allowed him out on house arrest.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson's order marks an end to months of attempts from Manafort to lighten his house arrest restrictions after he was charged and pleaded not guilty to foreign lobbying violations.

Three US marshals led Manafort out of the courtroom into the prisoner holding area immediately after the judge's ruling. He was not placed in handcuffs. Before he disappeared through the door, he turned toward his wife and supporters and gave a stilted wave.

Minutes later, a marshal returned to give his wife, Kathleen, still standing in the courtroom's front row, Manafort's wallet, belt and the burgundy tie he wore Friday.

When Manafort was first arraigned and pleaded not guilty in October, a magistrate judge set a $10 million bail price and placed him under house arrest, confiscating his passports. Manafort then attempted to find assets of his own and through real estate and family members' accounts. In December, the judge signed off on his plan -- provided he could provide the correct documentation. It didn't come through, according to the court filings.

Prosecutors have argued all along the jet-setting political consultant was a significant flight risk. As the process to negotiate his bail dragged on, prosecutors discovered possible mortgage fraud related to some of the properties he hoped to use as bail. That's when they finalized additional federal criminal charges against him in Virginia.

In the past month, Manafort finally came up with a plan to post some of his own and others' properties for his bail. The prosecutors appeared to agree with the plan, according to court filings.

Then, last week, Mueller's team alleged they found evidence Manafort had tried to tell possible witnesses in his case to lie about their lobbying efforts under him in the US.

The witness tampering allegations, which also resulted in new criminal charges, were enough Friday for him to lose his house arrest privileges.

Manafort had $10 million loan from Russian oligarch: court filing

(Reuters) - A search warrant application unsealed on Wednesday revealed closer links than previously known between President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and a Russian oligarch with close ties to the Kremlin.

In an affidavit attached to the July 2017 application, an FBI agent said he had reviewed tax returns for a company controlled by Manafort and his wife that showed a $10 million loan from a Russian lender identified as Oleg Deripaska.

The application to search Manafort’s Virginia apartment was granted, providing key evidence for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictments of Manafort as part of his investigation into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Mueller has been investigating the financial links between Manafort and Deripaska, a metals magnate who is known to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Deripaska was among the Russian oligarchs sanctioned by the United States in April.

Mueller also has indicted Konstantin Kilimnik, a political operative who sometimes served as an intermediary between Manafort and Deripaska. In court filings Mueller’s prosecutors have said Kilimnik has ties to Russian spy agencies, which Kilimnik denies.

The affidavit unsealed on Wednesday also disclosed that Deripaska had financially backed Manafort’s consulting work in Ukraine when it started in 2005-2006, citing information from a source whose name was redacted, a sign that a former Manafort associate may have cooperated with the investigation.

On Tuesday a federal judge in Virginia dealt a blow to Manafort by rejecting a motion to dismiss the case on the argument Mueller did not have the mandate to prosecute him.

Manafort, who was Trump’s campaign manager during part of his 2016 presidential campaign, has been indicted in Washington and Virginia on charges ranging from conspiring to launder money, bank and tax fraud and failing to register as a foreign agent for the pro-Russia Ukraine government.

Manafort has pleaded not guilty. His Virginia trial starts in July and his Washington trial is scheduled for September.

                  • Mueller indicts 12 Russian intel officers for hacking Democrats

A federal grand jury on Friday returned a new indictment against a dozen Russians as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into alleged Russian meddling during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The charges come just days before President Donald Trump is set to meet with Russia's President Vladimir Putin and on the same day that Trump, on a trip to the United Kingdom, again called the investigation a "witch hunt."

The indictment targets 12 Russian intelligence officers for engaging in a sustained effort to hack networks of Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic National Committee, and Hillary Clinton’s campaign. All 12 are members of the GRU, Russia's intelligence service, according to the court filing.

In announcing the indictment Friday, Deputy Attorney General described how the Russian GRU officials began a “spearphishing” campaign in 2016 against volunteers and employees of Clinton’s campaign, including her campaign chairman. Russians’ spearphishing techniques also earned them access to networks of the DCCC and DNC, where they were able to steal emails and documents, covertly monitor the computer activity of dozens of employees, and implant hundreds of malicious files to steal passwords and maintain access to the networks.

Rosenstein described how "One GRU unit worked to steal information, while another unit worked to disseminate stolen information."

"Free and fair elections are hard-fought and contentious. There will always be adversaries who work to exacerbate domestic differences and try to confuse, divide, and conquer us," Rosenstein said. "The blame for election interference belongs to the criminals who committed election interference."

Hillary Clinton campaign chairman, John Podesta, whose email account was hacked during the campaign, told ABC News he was heartened to see the Mueller action.

“Donald Trump calls this a witch hunt? Well, we’ve just found some witches,” Podesta said. “And they’ve been indicted.”

The new indictment raises the stakes as President Trump is preparing for a Monday summit with Putin in Helsinki, Finland. Already, Trump has fielded questions about whether he will raise the matter of Russian interference in the 2016 campaign, saying he expects Putin will continue to deny any involvement. “All I can do is say, ‘Did you?’ And, ‘Don’t do it again,’” Trump told reporters during the recent NATO summit.

Rosenstein on Friday said he briefed President Trump on these allegations earlier this week, adding that although Americans corresponded with the indicted Russians, no Americans knowingly conspired with Russian intelligence officers.

Former Gov. Chris Christie, a one-time Trump adviser and now an ABC News consultant, said Mueller wanted Trump to enter his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin with this indictment in front of him.

“The unmistakable conclusion is that Bob Mueller wanted to show that this is not a debatable point,” Christie said. “There is no debate that the Russians meddled in the election.”

In just over a year since his appointment as special counsel, Mueller and his hand-picked team of prosecutors have now filed ten indictments covering 32 individuals and three businesses, earned five guilty pleas, have two criminal cases headed to trial, and sentenced one person to prison.

President Donald Trump and his supporters have repeatedly called Mueller’s investigation a “Witch Hunt”.

Friday’s indictment comes as Rosenstein faces increased scrutiny from President Trump’s backers on Capitol Hill. House Republicans have threatened to hold Rosenstein in contempt of Congress for what they say is the Justice Department's failure to comply in a timely manner with a subpoena for documents related to the Clinton email and Trump-Russia investigations.

The Department of Justice last Friday sent a letter to two House committees insisting it had fully complied. Link

                      • So just trying to read between the lines of what is going and this idiot Guliani trying to argue that breaking the law might not be a crime... Basically this all goes back to June 9, 2016 at Trump Tower between Trump jnr, Manafort and Kushner, Natalya Veselnitskaya, Rinat Akhmetshin, Gldestone (who set it up), Anatoli Samochornov (a translator) and Ike Kaveladze (who works for the Agalarovs).

Remember that originally they said this was nothing - about "adoption" (Moscow having US adoption of Muscovite orphans in retaliation for the Magnitsky Law). Later it became clear that 'adoption' had never been mentioned. It was all about "dirt on Clinton" - and almost certainly getting Magnitsky or sanctions eased in exchange for whatever dirt the lawyer (Veselnitskaya) was referred to as a "Russian government attorney" and that all "This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump". This does not seem to have been 'news' to Trump jnr or worried him at all. He was being offered "dirt on Clinton" by a "Russian government attorney" as part "of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump" but as far as he was concerned this was no big surprise. It was "Great".

Then came more lies about who explained it. First it was Trump jnr with his lawyers. Then Trumpkin Snr had some part in it (although he only found out about it much later) and finally Guliani said it was all Trumpkin. Nothing new there per se - this Administration has done nothing but lie from Day 1 and the 'biggest crowd' rubbish. It has just got worse from then.

So Trumpkin Jnr without any doubt was willing to get help from Moscow - and was not surprised they were offering it. This is willingness to knowingly collude. The only question was whether Trumpkin Snr know of and okayed this meeting. I found it virtually impossible that think he would not have been told at the time - nor do his later excuses that he "only heard of it a couple of day ago" add up if he was dictating all the lies we explaining it.

Now Cohen, who is going down and desperately trying to get a deal says Trumpkin Snr DID know about this meeting before and sanctioned it. We also have others saying that Mueller had document proving that Trumpkin Snr knew and okayed this meeting. If so then Trumpkin Snr is as guilty as his son. So all the claims of "no collusion" were also just BS.

That is why we have the second comedian Giuliani arguing "Trumpkin didn't collude but even if he did collusion is not a crime" which seems already to hinting they may have to concede there was collusion. But Meuller is directed to any "links and/or coordination between the Russian Government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Trumpkins". Well that is already proved.

So sure there is no law saying Trumpkins may not collude with Muscovites just like that there is no law saying Sara may not shoot Poroshenko on August 2nd at xyz. But there are laws against murder and laws and conspiracy and aiding and abetting. Trumpkin is guilty as hell - I have been saying it since the first day - and if it is proved he knew the Muscovite Government was "supporting him" (which did not surprise his son) and okayed that and the other meetings reasonably speaking he was at very least aiding and abetting a conspiracy but in truth he is a traitor.

                            • My experience in Democratic Party politics might be helpful. We were under strict requirements that any and all contributions — of ANY kind: cash, services, venue provision — could only be directly from US citizens, and no funny business about Jose/Ivan/Ming passing something to Citizen Joe who would then contribute it to US politicians or parties as if it was from Citizen Joe himself.

The band playing at the fund-raiser had to be US citizens, so no contributions “in kind.”
