FBI agent goes rogue, flees to Syria to marry jihadist she was investigating

Daniela Greene, who worked as a translator for the agency, had used social media to spy on Denis Cuspert, a German jihadist and former rapper who went by the name Deso Dogg.

Cuspert was a prolific online recruiter for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis), who gained a reputation as one of its most brutal foreign fighters. He featured in Isis videos threatening the then US president Barack Obama and holding a freshly severed head.

But in a twist that mirrors the plot of the US television series Homeland, in which a CIA operative played by Claire Danes falls in love with a soldier-turned-jihadist played by Damian Lewis, the two became close and Cuspert convinced Greene to join him in Syria
In the realm of spirit, seek clarity; in the material world, seek utility.

More detailed reports suggests she was a contractor (though it's the first time I've heard of a contracted translator being actually tasked to investigate someone).

Though real life being real life, the real life Carrie acts more like some schmuck from a Coen Brother movie or Veep/In The Thick of It.

For the sake of debate, what are the chances that shes a highly trained intelligence operative? Looks like a great way to get access to the wasps nest.

Given that - back then - that was what was actually claimed by the FBI... relatively unlikely.

That kinda op wouldn't be cancelled after a few weeks. And her extraction went pretty miserably then (she was arrested by Turkish police and deported to the US).

Memory is a bit vague, but By 2014 we pretty much knew how fanatical some of these Rebel groups were. You would imagine she'd know exactly how extreme these guys were...It does seem like a very big risk on her part. Considering whats happened to others ..Aid workers etc Bizzare!
