  • Russian ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov shot dead in Ankara

A gunman has shot dead Russia's ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, apparently in protest at Russia's involvement in the Syrian conflict.
Several other people were reportedly also injured in the attack, a day after protests in Turkey over Russia's military intervention in Syria.
The killer, said to be an off-duty Turkish policeman, opened fire at point blank range as Mr Karlov made a speech.
Police later "neutralised" the attacker, Turkish media say.
Mr Karlov was rushed to hospital, reports said, but his death was later confirmed by the Russian foreign ministry.

Apparently he is one of the guards and was shouting "Remember Aleppo, remember Syria" apart from the obligatory Allah Akbars etc.. He got the wrong guy but I fear this may just be the first taste of the bitter cup that the Putin regime has so arrogantly poured out for their country.

The photos are unusually clear for an attack of this kind. They will become iconic for Syrian rebels. Will ISIS claim responsibility, and if they do, will Russia finally get serious about taking them down?

i dont think that this is ISIS. this one seems like Gulens move.

theres no benefit for ISIS in this.

I'm the only one who thinks this is the US response to Russian meddling in the US elections? Is that far fetched?

The most obvious reason is the one the shooter stated, i.e. the Syrian opposition. They obviously have the motivation

Unusually clear for an attack of this kind but perfectly understandable why: He was in a brightly lit room in front of a crowd of journalists, i.e. professional photographers with high-end equipment.

Yes, it is that far-fetched. The website you're looking for is called "InfoWars".

One might almost think of a setup in that regard... right down to the pictures hung on the walls, especially the one to his left.

Would this not require a lot of Russian boots on the ground and more treasure from the shrinking Russian economy? Aerial bombing while costly, destructive and demoralizing to the enemy has never occupied and held ground.

Putin while a great opportunist and manipulator is a poor economist. He is bleeding his foreign reserves annexing the impoverish part of the Ukraine. Hemorrhaging cash on the Syria and Ukraine adventure Backing Assad who can barely hold what territory he has and will be dependent on the treasuries of Tehran and Moscow, both of which are pretty lean.
