Likely.Too many suspect moves.Thing is any conspiracy requires much secret and limited communications. The MIT was looking for such a move for years. This is like the Putsch in Algier in 1961.Very limited army participation because units and officers commanding them were deemed unreliable or probably were waiting on the sidelines to see from where the wind is blowing.
Until now I did not saw any elite unit involved.the commander of the SOF was firmly in Erdogan's camp. These guys are the spearhead of the Turkish version of foreign policy in Syria.
Obama was the among the first who were babbling about democracy, will of the people etc... just in the critical moments when nobody knew what was going on.In effect he was supporting Erdogan. It is likely the putschists contacted the US prior to this op ,so you probably had some advanced intel. Why he decided to pull the rug under their feet,is beyond my pay grade.
Considering the crowd surrounding the troops was yelling Allah Akbar, the first thing their officials say is ''fvck the US''.If I were to guess, you'll get the blame for it.
I get the feeling the coup was genuine, but under control. And Turkey will turn worse, fast.
As a bonus, their Health Minister(of all people)suggested instituting death penalty for putchists.Since in Turkey will see severe persecution against anyone talking against the regime,I'd say our Turkish friends better STFU when it comes to online criticism.

Um, that's the opposite political direction.
You're correct. No Greece, then what? How about Germany? :-)
Too many pro-AKP here, they'd be lynched.
Looks like some troops have been beheaded by the mob, while Incirlik AB has its power cut off.
Judges have also been arrested. These fuckers planned this in advance.Secular Turkey is gone .

36% (!) of all judges in Turkey have been "relieved from their office" since this morning.
A coup it is.An islamist coup against the secular Turkish state. This one so far appears successfull.

Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none; be able for thine enemy rather in power than use; and keep thy friend under thine own life's key; be checked for silence, but never taxed for speech.
lol, even tho US interests with Turkey pretty much just extends to anti-ISIS cooperation, somehow again this is either the fault of the US for supporting a coup or supporting Erdogan, can't tell which it is.
what a mess. the coup did not seem very well planned at all.
There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."- Isaac Asimov

Some photos of those arrested and the events.Lots of stars, plenty of colonels.Pretty widespread units and commands held by the putchists, but so much easier for the CI to get wind of the coup.
It took likely 2-3 years for all those officers to organize a coup in secret.Funny thing is a few weeks ago,Turkish COS declared in public the rumours of a coup are unfounded.
Too bad they did not killed the scumbag while he was in Istanbul. That was the key.
