The euro leaders have to reach out to their people and do a better job explaining to them what this EU thing is.

Some say EU will unravel others say this will strengthen it. The Dutch are going to try this out next.

Outside observers think the UK's influence on the world stage will be diminished now. UK was a beachhead into the EU, where will that be now ? Dublin ?

Heh, yeah that's what i thought too. Why isn't she celebrating.

Apparently she has changed her views since we got her UKIP euro phobic rhetoric. Here.

Another gem. Asking whether UKIP receives loans from Russia and not getting a proper reply. wink wink.

      • Seems like the moaning minnies are practicing being Irish there are calls and loopholes calling for a 2nd referendum , and it will carry on until they get the vote the EU and whingin kids get , still never mind if they get the result overturned hopefully by a small margin , the leave camp can press for another referendum ,,,and round and around the carrousel goes , will it ever stop ???? lol.

Earlier this year, William Healey created a special petition requesting a second referendum should the original be decided by an incredibly small margin, regardless of the outcome. The 48.1% to remain vs. the 51.9% outcome when the BBC declared the results earlier today looks like the exact scenario described in the petition.

As soon as the results were announced, the petition began rising by approximately 1,000 signatures every minute until the incredible volume of petitioners crashed the website according to The Independent.

The petition reads, “We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based on a turnout less than 75% there should be another referendum.”

By law, Parliament must consdier for debate any petition that receives over 100,000 signatures. At the time of this writing, the petition was well over 145,000 signees and climbing.

There is a petition now for the leave camp for govt to declare the result valid , I went on to sign it and guess what ,,its been suspended after 5 sigs so they can authenticate its a valid petition ,,unlike the call for the 2nd referendum , thats galloping along , whingers flying EU flags , traitors who hate our country . Go live in germany .Just imagine , another vote and if the remain wins does that allow myself and my generation to cry foul after some brats who have no idea why the UK was called GREAT BRITAIN , were our fathers efforts n deaths in vain , just to be slagged off because we actually got off our collective arses and did something for our country ,,not for brussels or any other foreign state to dictate to us , we give respect and would like it back , from whoever wants to diss us , and guess what , 18 to 24 year olds voted out as well , however the stinking festering cesspit of politics is rearing its devious head again ,,,,,remember camoron stating that whatever the reult it must be respected and adhered to ,,thats because he thought like others that the remain would win ,, well he was wrong and now wants to stay on for a few months to settle things down , or is it that he wants another vote and hopefully win so he can hail a great victory and keep his job ?? cynical , meeeee , f#####g to true .

                Nope. It will grow.

First, the the power of the European commission will diminish, leaving nation states in Europe stronger by default.

Secondly, I suspect UK will actually benefit economically by practicing transatlantic trade agreement arbitrage. There is already talk of a UK US trade agreement. You could imagine this could extend to UK and China. If so then UK might well achieve entrepot status as a smooth interface between European and RoW regulations. In other words, the UK might get more say then ever in trade policy and even European regulations, while making quote a bit of extra money.

Thirdly, you might say that's ridiculous. What about punishing Britain. What about fairness? I think I've already addressed that in my previous posts, but here are another three.

A: the personal motivations of Hollander and Merle. This represents a once in a century opportunity to reshape European politics, but that could only happen if Merkel and Hollander turn on the Eurocrats instead of Britain. Politicians dream of opportunities like this the same way every firemen secretly wish for a big fire to fight. Now that it's here, are they going to let it slide? Junker et la are going under the bus.

B: Britain is the largest military power in Western Europe. With Russia in play these two are going to alienate Britain?

C: Scotland and Northern Ireland independence. Many are putting this out there in the spirit of schadenfreude. The leaders of Spain are sh***ing their pants. Here's a list of European separatist movements, some of which are wanting to rejoin mother Russia.

                https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...ents_in_Europe

The national governments in Europe want that to go on?

Anyway you slice it, the moment you step outside the self referential Brussels centric box, there is every reason Europe will cave to British interests, fairness be damned.

Heck, this is the same Europe that caves to Greece.

Referendum isn't legally binding but it sure is politically binding.

Earlier this year, William Healey created a special petition requesting a second referendum should the original be decided by an incredibly small margin, regardless of the outcome. The 48.1% to remain vs. the 51.9% outcome when the BBC declared the results earlier today looks like the exact scenario described in the petition.
Outcome would be worse had it been the other way around.

The petition reads, “We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based on a turnout less than 75% there should be another referendum.”
heh, this is known as applying laws retro actively. Ain't happening.

Rules of the game are set before the game begins not modified after to annul results.

however the stinking festering cesspit of politics is rearing its devious head again ,,,,,remember camoron stating that whatever the reult it must be respected and adhered to ,,thats because he thought like others that the remain would win ,, well he was wrong and now wants to stay on for a few months to settle things down , or is it that he wants another vote and hopefully win so he can hail a great victory and keep his job ?? cynical , meeeee , f#####g to true .

Interestingly, Google Trends reported friday that the second-most-asked question typed into Google in Britain referring to the European Union was "What is the EU?".

Britain applies its legislation ex post facto - retroactively - quite frequently, and is about the only civilized nation on this planet that reserves - and actively uses - a sovereign right to also enact retroactive criminal legislation in violation of international human rights conventions (including a special British proviso in the European Union's Charter of Fundamental Rights).

Edit, PS: Interestingly, British tax payers can now expect to be slammed with fees retroactively again. This was previously prevented since 2013 by an European Court of Justice ruling condemning British ex post facto legislation in that field.

Brits are out, the bigger euro sceptics are the French. The project moved behind closed doors and then was presented as a fait accompli. Similar things going on with TPP and the US-Euro thing cant remember what its called.

Was reading up on Jean Monnet and his idea was to integrate the coal & steel industries of the various countries. Coal & steel are the lifeblood of these countries in the late 40's & 50s. This is amazing that countries can agree to allow their vital interests to be pooled together. it worked, and formed the basis for the EEC.

It's wierd how in IR they start with the hardest things to pull off first. See nuke agreements with other countries. That comes first and after the lower hanging stuff.

To be fair the ECSC was part of a much larger shell game between in particular De Gaulle and Adenauer in the early 50s centered around the two big projects of Adenauer - rearmament and getting the Saar back - and French moves to carve out a market against US pressure.

What's stopping someone from crossing out your indelible marker and frauding the vote? Are you not allowed to make a mistake and cross out your previously marked choice? Pencil or pen shouldn't make a difference.
