He was an utterly incapable, unadapted, irresponsible, psychopathic personality, full of empty, infantile fantasies, but cursed with the keen intuition of a rat or a guttersnipe. He represented the shadow, the inferior part of everybody’s personality, in an overwhelming degree, and this was another reason why they fell for him.”

I actually think the decision to curtail the Zumwalts and cancel the CG(X) program in favor of a Flight III Burke restart was probably a mistake. I would have rather seen a somewhat larger run of Zumwalt's and a Tico and Burke replacement based on the lessons learned from them.
The Burkes are fine ships, but squeezing in the power and cooling to run the latest radar systems, DEWs, and still leave room for future upgrades over the life of the ship isn't going to be much cheaper than building on a new and more capable hull.

Steve, if Bath Iron Works somehow could have gotten costs and delays under control, perhaps follow on orders could have been possible. But it did not. So I can not see anything but flight III Burkes for the next 15-20 years before a new large combatant design comes down the pike. So over stuffed Burkes it is (I just picture an overstuffed sandwich with toppings just pouring out).Last edited by surfgun; 22 Jun 16,, 23:58.
