  • Movies That You Can Watch Again and Again

Do you have films that you can watch and appreciate again and again, where each viewing is a new, interesting adventure for your mind even after you've committed all the dialog and perhaps every pixel to memory?

I sure do; and I don't really know what features make them my favorites to watch. There were some I used to watch on VHS tapes and eventually replaced with DVD and Blu-ray versions. The ones that come to mind:

    The African Queen (1952)
    Forbidden Planet (1956)
    Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
    Patton (1970)
    Star Wars (1977)
    The Bounty (1984)
    Blame it on Rio (1984)
    Greystoke (1984)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981 BBC TV Series)
    Jurassic Park (1993)
    Twister (1996)
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings collections (one long, six-part story) (2001-2014)
    Master and Commander (2003)
    King Kong (2005)
    Avatar (2009)
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)
    Oblivion (2013)

There are many others which I enjoy watching every few years, but the movies are listed are those that I find to be enjoyable even if I previously watched them just the week before. There are also some more candidates that I do enjoy watching repeatedly but are not yet old enough to have withstood the test of time.

    Star Wars
Die Hard (my favorite Christmas movie)
    Starship Troopers
    Aliens
    Avengers
    Captain America: Winter Soldier
    Back to the Future
    True Lies
    Stripes

Hmmm....I can't help it but notice all these movies feature a lot of gun play with the exception of Back to the Future.

An example for me would be Lethal Weapon, the first. Been awhile and just saw it again. After all these years the thing that jumped out at me was how many rainy days there were in Los Angeles. Come on now this is Southern California.

Since Christmas just past there were two movies on that I enjoyed and have since the 50's but one only sees them around December now.

        Miracle on 34th Street.

        It's a Wonderful Life.

Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life would also definitely be on my list movies that I enjoy seeing repeatedly if not as often, along with:
          Casablanca (1943)
          Swiss Family Robinson (1960)
          Hatari (1962)
          My Fair Lady (1964)
          The Sound of Music (1965)

I did notice that my original list is heavily science fiction and adventure films with a strong emphasis on the human story. I think all of them take me to places and times where I would like to be.
