  • One Rank One Pension

This issues is still stuck up, and no sign of resolving. The original outlay was around ~ 8000 crores (1crore = 10 million). General Malik says that the govt. is saying that another 4000-5000 crores will be needed. That is a miniscule amount compared to many oher outlays, and for this the exservicemen have been humiliated and manhandled when they tried to protest.

What the fuck is Modi and the other degenerates in the govt. doing?

For those new to the concept of OROP :

Well, OROP will not just be limited to Military personnels. Other government employees will start striking too. (Of course, the military people have the right to demand OROP given their exemplary sacrifices) But this will lead to huge loss to the exchequer when the time now is to invest in Infra and Development. I think the government wants to give the benefit of OROP to military people but is trying to delay it for 3-4 years, to invest in the economy of the country.
But yeah, the way they were manhandled is rather disgusting.
Railways is the 8th largest employer in the world, with ~1.4 million employees, now when they demand it too, think of the money required.

Let's not have that argument again.
There is a huge difference between defence personnel (who retire at a much younger age) and non military services.

And how will an additional amount of just 4k Crores be a huge loss to the exchequer? Is it worth the tears and despair of our veterans?

They have not raised this demand and if they do, I am happy to cut their service at 35 years of age and give them orop

The current Modi led government have been a dismal failure in every aspect, if their chest-thumping sloganeering and propaganda is counted for, pre 2014 LS elections.

#1. Black money will be brought back to the country within 100 days of the BJP coming to power. Fail.
#2. Will talk to Pakistan in a language they understand. Coalition with PDP in J&K. Ufa talks. They have no Pakistan policy. Epic fail. Bloody anti-nationalists.
#3. Lalitgate. Who would forget the patronage the Bellary brothers found in Sushma Swaraj. Fail.
#4. Monsoon session washed out. BJP left crying. BJP doesn't remember the same tactics they used against the Congress earlier. Fail

There are more, but the 4 points would do for now.

Things/changes the BJP have brought about, which has benefitted the country immensely.

#1. Beef ban. We all would eat, what the BJP would have us eat.
#2. Porn banned, overturned. Make in India, but careful, do not shake in India.
#3. 50 shades of Grey banned. Unbanned banned. The public should watch movies as the BJP sees fit. They are our cultural & moral thekedars afterall.
#4. FTII issue. A C-grade actor have been appointed as the Chairman of the prestigious institute. And why not, he's close to the RSS and has been rewarded. Merit be damned.

Don't discount the fact that other government employees earn Lacs and Crores (depending on their position) as bribes during their tenure as government employees. And oh wait, it was the BJP who was involved in the Coffin scam of the Kargil martyrs.

              Its short sided stupidity.
The power of the state after all comes from its monopoly on violence.
The state is crumbling, beset by foes both within and without. The government every day scales new heights of sloth, incompetence and venality.
Our central paramilitary forces are similarly overstretched and underpaid.
We lean heavily on the Army being willing to obey the orders of the civilian government.
Give them their 4K Crore, its cheap for the price.

Even considering honest bureuacrats and non military service members, they retire at 60 or therebabouts whereas the military men retire at 35. I have seen veterans begging on the streets of US because presumably the state does not stand strongly beside them. I hate that and I would hate to see the same of our ex-jawans

They could take that big pot of honey called MP funds. That goes to their pockets anyway. Probably they can make good use of it here

How much for which period of time you guys talk about?

The way I see it (and I know it's been a promise, but atill) is this:
You have two Captains, one retires in 2000, the other in 2015. Both worked for same time. Did they receive the same salary? Did they contribute the same in the pension fund?
It's a fund ffs, not a wishlist. You get in accordance of how much you've put in it.

                    Am I missing something?

Or even just defund a few social programs. Its not like these schemes actually work or reach the people.

In the mind of the ex servicemen (as we call the veterans), it is a question of parity and respect. A Subedar major (a JCO rank) who retired in 2010 may get less pension than a Havaldar Major (sergeant major, an NCO rank) who retires in 2015. The OROP system was in place till 1973 after which Indira Gandhi, on the recommendation of the 3rd Pay Commission, abolished it

Damn you. How would the MPs survive? :-) (545*5) = 2725 Crores/year. 2 years of MPLAD funds could be used for OROP, and it's not like any work gets done on the field. Just a massive corruption scheme.

On a side note, the massive infrastructure projects announced need a lot of funds. Maybe this is why negotiations are going on with the veterans? The issue here is that the BJP promised the moon and the stars before the elections, and now they're finding it difficult to deliver. If CAD, fiscal deficit are not maintained, rating agencies would go for the kill, plus the decision of getting India within 50th rank amongst best countries to start/do business. They have promised too much, and now Mr. Modi just doesn't seem to understand what issue to focus on.

The civil services folks in the 3rd Central Pay Commission wanted to bring military benefits in line with civil service benefits
