...The YPG’s victories similarly enhanced the Kurds’ standing inside Turkey itself. In the June elections to the Turkish parliament, the Kurdish HDP party won 12 percent of the vote nationally, and so blocked Erdogan’s AKP party from winning a parliamentary majority...
the reason behind HDP's rise is not YPG but the election system in Turkey.

if we (the seculars) did not support HDP's entry to the National Assembly then Erdogan's power would reach a level that he can change the Republic to a Federation or something like that.

this is an issue about election mathematics.

ironically the fate of Turkey seemed to hang in the hands of Ocalan's HDP. tho this is not valid today.

the reason behind the restart of moving against pkk (not Kurds) is that Erdogan seemingly thinks that negotiations are a main cause of AKP's lost votes.

        Nice analysis Karim.

        Colonel...I am with you.

Is someone really recomemnding Ottoman Empire 2.0? eek!

While redrawing the map and undoing the criminal idiiocy of the British and the French it is never going to fly. With the West losing it scollective shit over Russia and Ukraine there is no way a new map of the Middle East can be be drawn.

And I am really beginning to be sincere in asking myself....other than gaining oil and the loss of blood, treasure and standing....just what the fuck the United States has gotten over being involved in the Middle East?

Given Turkey still doesn't have a proper government after that election, what Erdogan is cruising for is new elections for which he's trying to push support for the HDP below the 10% minimum barrier to enter parliament. The side moves in this are vice premier Akdogan's tirades and criminal persecution against the HDP and its members that most outside Turkey barely notice - and that's also the tight rope Erdogan is walking, that is that the nationalist rallying campaign he's playing might in fact move votes over to Akdogan's MHP party. Erdogan needs to keep the MHP low though in order to gain his single-party AKP government that would allow him to continue interfering in Turkish politics despite not having any nominal function in it.
