My father was made professor emeritus this week. In the interests of family history I was moved to ask him just what he was doing in Tennessee at Oak Ridge in the seventies. Turns out he was doing studies on the potential extent and severity of genetic mutation in the us population in the event of thermonuclear war. It is a bit bizarre to think of my reliably lefty dad being a cog in the MIC like this and it leaves me wondering what other little Cold War gems any of you might have to offer.
This little fact would be lost to me except that he happened to mention working next to Y 12 which got my brain working.
