  • USS Oriskany

We all know the ship is now a reef but I ran across this National Geographic documentary in how they prepared the ship before she was sunk. It is quite fascinating. Even more so to me since the Hornet is a sister ship and areas looked familiar. Video is 44 minutes.

The "Wall of Water" coming up the hanger bay is the craziest part. I'm also amazed that the Oriskany looked so bad on the inside. I've seen other ships that had been out of service longer that looked a ton better...

My step-dad served on this boat...looking through his cruisebook in 2014 was a mind trip. Dudes with beards, Afros, and sunglasses in their pictures. Guys without shirts, smoking in spaces.

      HT1's with Tridents... Crazy days.
