Always thought it was a bad idea. Apart from the economies of scale that come from being part of the UK the major beneficiaries of an independent Scotland would have been the pro-independence Scottish politicians who would get to strut the world stage with their chests puffed out like pigeons as the 'leaders' of a nation state. They wanted all the trappings of nationalism with none of the costs. National currency - forget it we'll use the pound. A global foreign service - we'll set up embassies in a few 'important' countries but the UK can represent us everywhere else (for free). Passports - use British ones until/when we get organized. The EU - they have to take us. etc etc etc

If you are emotionally invested in 'believing' something is true you have lost the ability to tell if it is true.

lol I was making an underhanded reference towards another thread and another country :-) although yep that's pretty much it - like a child asking over and over again. except the result is usually permanent.

On the day after of the historic referendum vote in Scotland, I would like to have wished every hope of success for the future to my friends North of the border. There was the moment when you could have taken destiny into your own hands, and cradled it like the precious, delicate egg that it was and walked forwards with your head held high with patriotic pride. This wasn't the first opportunity that you would have had for independence but it will probably be the last we see in our lifetimes - you should not have squandered it.
One final thought: It may not have happened for you yesterday. The campaign of fear, uncertainty and doubt peddled by the cronies of Westminster may have swayed a small minority of voters but chances were, you failed to achieve the required majority, it will be down to the fact that less than 50% of you knew how to spell 'X'.

                                Tankie,

Not realy my business, but this really comes across as divisive. The scots voted no to stay together, probably not to hear them being called wankers or illiterate. don't you think this is the time to bring people together.
