    When we reactivated the Missouri in the 1980's, her bronze propellers had age hardened and there wer a numper of chips and notches broken out of the blades. We were sent four replacement propellers. They were not brand new but had been repaired and heat treated. All we had to do was balance them and install them on the ship.

    As I walked by the propellers at our nearly brand new propeller balancing shop, I decided to take notes of their sizes and weights;

    Propeller #1 (stbd outbd): BUSHIPS serial #5232, 4 bladed, 18'-3" diameter, 39,792 lbs.
    Propeller #4 (port outbd): BUSHIPS serial #5235, 4 bladed, 18'-3" diameter, 40,725 lbs.
    Propeller #2 (stbd inbd): BUSHIPS serial #5237, 5 bladed, 17'-0" diameter, 40,032 lbs.
    Propeller #3 (port inbd): BUSHIPS serial #18570, 5 bladed, 17'-0" diameter, 43,290 lbs and was also marked ESSEX (as they really were ESSEX class propellers).
    Able to leap tall tales in a single groan.
