Russia retaliates against Moldova's EU treaty
    July 3, 2014

Russia has banned imports of processed beef, horse meat, lamb, and pork from Europe’s poorest country - Moldova - the same day it ratified an EU trade treaty. The Russian veterinary authority, Rosselkhoznadzor, on Wednesday (2 July) cited concerns over "African swine fever" in its decision, which enters into force on Saturday. The move came as the Moldovan parliament adopted an EU free trade and political association agreement by 59 votes against four, while 38 MPs from the pro-Russia opposition Communist Party staged a walkout.

And useless. As for ''life's natural logic'',Moldova does not belong with those who occupied it.
Rogozin et co can keep Transnistria until the last Soviet there dies of starvation and old age.

they started rejecting norwegian fish imports last month - all of a sudden norwegian fish were magically diseased :)

IIRC they're thinking about taking russia to the WTO.

kind of bizarre that they bomb georgia, run cyber attacks against estonia, threaten the finns, run the same food gig on moldova, and then wonder why no one wants to be their best friend

Serbians want to be. But there they build pipeline, gas stations, send help, etc, etc...

In essence we can blame the victims for being naughty and enraging the bigger brother.

For those not knowing me, I am being VERY sarcastic here.

I am surprised that Russia isn't a little more hesitant about pissing off the people in its neighborhood. I would think it would be better to use the carrot than the stick for the people you have to live near unless it was something particularly important.

The US certainly has the military power to threaten and blackmail Canada and Mexico, but that doesn't make it a good policy. If you have to live next to somebody, surely it is better to have them as a friend.

On the other hand, if the US feels like messing around with Libya and bombing a few things to get its way, there aren't likely to be any real repercussions (for the US) because there is a giant moat between them.

They don't wonder at all GF. They know it is because evil forces are conspiring against them....just as they always have in the past. All these nations not wanting to be their friend simply proves how persecuted they are....just as they always have been. There is simply no way it can be a result of their entirely reasonable actions to secure their nation & take their rightful place in the world. And if it is that once again proves just how hostile the world is to Russia.....as it has always been.

Misunderstood & victimized now as always. Enough to make a fella cry really.

Neighborhoods don't exist in the Russian psyche. They expect and demand the subservience of any lands once ruled by the Czarist and/or Soviet empires.
