''Last month, the head of Uttar Pradesh state’s governing party, the regionally prominent Samajwadi Party, told an election rally that the party was opposed to the law calling for gang rapists to be executed. “Boys will be boys,” Mulayam Singh Yadav said. “They make mistakes.” ''... I pity the ladies of that area with heads of party's having that attitude.

According to Indian media, three arrested brothers (Pappu Yadav, Awadhesh Yadav, and Urvesh Yadav) have confessed to raping and murdering the two teenage cousins. Two additional suspects are being sought.

All three brothers have been booked under Section 302 (murder) and Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Two constables (Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav) have been arrested and booked under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

Two questions for our Indian members:

      1) Are the 3 brothers and 2 constables blood related or is Yadav a caste designation?

      2) The All India Democratic Women's Association alleges that the arrested constables were in the company of the brothers during the night of the incident. If this allegation is true, why are the constables also not charged with murder and rape since all participants in a criminal conspiracy are collectively legally liable for any crimes committed during the lifespan of a criminal conspiracy?

#1. It's a caste thing in North India. Don't know if they are blood related as of yet. However, of the same caste means of the same clan and hence brothers in a stupid sense.

#2. It ought to be. But I don't know if the law is screwed up to hide the complicity of the constables or to lessen the embarrassment of the State administration.

16-year-old girl set on fire in UP's Basti district as she resists rape bid

What's wrong with these guys? There needs to be martial law in UP. And then the purge.

Yet another horror story from Uttar Pradesh...

Men in India who attacked rape victim’s mother arrested
            May 31, 2014

Police yesterday arrested three men for brutally attacking the mother of a rape victim in India’s northern Uttar Pradesh province, after she refused to withdraw her complaint against them. Officials said the mother – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was stalked earlier this week by five men, including the father and brother of the rape accused in Etawah, 390km west of provincial capital Lucknow, and badly beaten after she declined to withdraw her accusation.

Local police chief Dinesh Kumar said the woman had been admitted to hospital in critical condition with multiple internal injuries and several broken bones. She was also unconscious and unable to speak to the police. The attack followed the May 11th rape of her teenage daughter, for which a local has been arrested.

According to reports, the mother was stripped in a field and savagely beaten by five relatives of the accused. She remains unconscious and in critical condition.

this particular case is clearly a caste conflict. the two girls were dalits (untouchables) while the perpetrators were yadavs, a caste of herders (also pretty low on the caste heirarchy but higher than dalits) who are politically dominant in UP and Bihar. rural UP and bihar are the most polarized and lawless areas in the entire country. and guess what? the ruling party is run by yadavs who have a captive votebank amongst the yadavs and muslims. is anyone surprised that the CM is defending the accused?

Per capita? It's a wrong assumption and has been discussed in depth in some of the previous similar threads.

Bid to rape Aligarh judge at high-security home

If this can happen in a Judge's compound with Armed Constabulary, no wonder why other remote parts of India aren't safe for women.

Woman's head is blown off while trying to resist rape in Meghalaya

The Government needs to give a free hand to the para-military forces to deal with those terrorist scums in the NE once and for all. It's pathetic that such a lovely place is infested with goons with guns and the Government doesn't even blink. These terrorists groups can be wiped out in a year, if COIN ops are conducted along the the entire NE at the same time. No slipping through thick forest cover into neighboring states or into Burma.

It shows confidence (arrogance?)when i'd have thought he'd be on the defensive after the thrashing his party got in the general elections last month. And this after the thumping win he got that put him in charge of the state just two years prior. UP strikes me as a state where the patience of the electorate is quickly wearing thin.Three incumbents beaten in just five years. The caste equation is slowly starting to unravel there and people begin to think of more mundane issues. If the general election is any indication of what the electorate in that state thinks of the incumbent then SP's days in charge of UP are numbered.

Incidents like this have a tendency to balloon thanks to the media. The media now has a hand in mediating how politics is played out. The Delhi gang rape incident took a toll on the CM's 15 yr reign. Congress was wiped out in Delhi.

Allow regular, normal, law abiding people the right to have guns and protect themselves. Lets see how many of these insects would be brave enough to try this after that.
