Maybe not, but if someone argues that Ukraine should not have ousted Yanukovych because of what happened afterward, they are arguing from hindsight, because Russia didn't warn Ukraine in advance that it would annex Crimea if Yanukovych was deposed.

Don't be disingenuous. The split was the result of Russian actions, not Maidan actions. The separatists, not Maidan are seeking dismemberment of Ukraine.

As for "objectives" we have the text of Geneva agreement:

All means all. Regardless of objectives.
And when armed people having seized public buildings in the center of Kiev are "peaceful protesters", and armed people in Slavyansk having done the same are "terrorists" - what is it? How about equal rights for all?
The purpose of the Geneva accord was to bring calm to the country, not to give Russia legal fodder to quibble over technicalities. All the parties knew going into Geneva that returning the police stations and public offices to legal authorities in the east would help calm the situation there. Who then is to decide what is legal? Ukraine and only Ukraine. It chooses by right to leave Maidan alone, thereby making it de facto a legal protest. And by the same right it judges the occupations in the east as a much greater threat to order and therefore declares them illegal. Russia does not have the right to decide what is legal in Ukraine.

If they do not want to live according to shared principles - then what we're talking about? Then the only way - to split the country and live separately.
Better yet, let those relatively few who want to live under Russian rule, move to Russia. If you want to live in France, you don't demand France to make the land under your house French. You move like people do all over the world. These separatists create chaos and then complain about it. It's a farce designed not to make their lives better, but to feed Russia's yearning for more territory.

Russia and its phoney excuses about protecting Russian-speaking Ukrainians... I'm glad the US doesn't have the same hang-up...we would be one busy country...
