Does anyone know what Russian military units are on or near the Sino-Russian border?

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Given all the chummy rhetoric between the two countries, I am assuming that only a token force exists, or perhaps a border patrol force at best, akin to the US-Mexico border. What about Chinese units on or near that border?

By treaty, military forces are stationed 100 miles from the border

As for "token force", Russia nowadays has somewhere around 12-15 brigades and around 200 fighter jets with a total of around 75,000 men stationed around the border.

The Chinese have somewhere around twice those numbers stationed in the Shenyang Military Region, although that of course also includes the border to the DPRK.

Operational Art I give to the Russians. The Russian General Staff is still heads and shoulders above the Chinese. The Chinese are still coming to terms with their new found technological prowness. Their technique still has not caught up.

Army groups of China - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of the 3 group armies cut in 2003 was the 23rd, stationed in Heilongjiang province which has a long border with Russia.

It shows how much threat China feels from Russia.

Aside from that the border troops are less well equipped than the troops close to Beijing. In the chinese government's eyes everyone is just cannon fodder. As before they rely on the masses. It's just they upgraded the masses these days. The troop strength is just symbolic at best. It doesn't mean anything. Troop movement or supply bases are better indicators.

The days the Chinese can lose 30,000 men in a 30 day campaign are long over. The Generals who fought the 1979 1st Sino-VN War who sufferred those kind of casualties were fired. The offers who fought the 1984 2nd Sino-VN War with much less casualty ratios were promoted.

If it's about "the masses" still why are they pouring resources into NCO/officer development? This isn't your father's PLA.
