actually, this has been worked on for a while, so I'm not sure why all of a sudden the media have discovered it - nonetheless...
australian scientists were working on this a few years back and the USGov picked up on it on their annual technology visits (USGOV, DARPA + USN, USMC, USAF and US Army do an annual visit to Aust to look at new technologies identified by DSTO - Aust equiv of DARPA)
