Lebanon blasts hit Iran's embassy in Beirut
    19 November 2013

At least 22 people are reported to have been killed in two explosions which hit the Iranian embassy in the Lebanese capital Beirut in quick succession. The Iranian cultural attache Ebrahim Ansari was among the dead. Officials said the death toll could rise. TV images showed burning cars, bodies on the street and damaged buildings. Iran is a major backer of the Lebanese Shia militant group Hezbollah, which has sent fighters to Syria to back the government of Bashar al-Assad.

Reports said one of the blasts was caused by a suicide bomber, while the second was a car bomb. This has not been officially confirmed. Reuters quotes Lebanese officials as saying CCTV footage showed a man rushing towards the outer wall of the Iranian embassy before blowing himself up, causing the first blast. The Iranian ambassador to Beirut confirmed Mr Ansari's death to Hezbollah's al-Manar TV, but said it was not clear if he had been in the embassy itself or one of the residential buildings nearby. A BBC correspondent in Beirut says those responsible wanted to send a clear message to Iran and Hezbollah.

    10, 9, 8, 7... till someone blames Israel.

Doesn't matter who did this, it is an act of terrorism and should be only viewed as such.

It's so easy to blame Israel, but what would be the cause for this action if done by them?

Israel is the convenient scape goat. The gulf arabs, KSA in particular are more interested in unseating Assad than Israel.

This is the spillover from Syria.

Oh! when are the Lebanese elections coming up. The score is 2-0 to Iran over KSA.

Blaming Israel papers over the unpleasant fact that Muslim sectarian warfare in Syria and Iraq is now infecting Lebanon.

Seems likely that Sunni Jihadis are not happy that the Iranian SF types and Hezzollah light infantry have reversed Assad's fortunes.

Looks that way. Could be that Iran has bought itself a whole world of hurt.

The al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades took responsibility for Tuesday’s suicide-bomb attack on the Iranian embassy in Lebanon, raising fears that the Lebanese-based Sunni group may unleash a new spate of religious conflict in a country that is still recovering from its own sectarian civil war. The attack — which killed 25, including an Iranian diplomat — injured 150 and caused widespread damage in a quiet residential neighborhood. Sirajeddine Zuraikat, the group’s unofficial spokesman and religious leader crowed about the success of two “heroes” of the Sunni community and vowed attacks would continue.

If nothing else, quite a bit more honest than the Lebanese 'Israel-did-it' government.
