  • Women's rights in the Arab World

The annual poll of women's-rights organizations in the Arab Middle East and Arab Africa by the Thomson Reuters Foundation ranks the Comoros Islands first and Egypt last.

The poll found that 99.3% of Egyptian women experience sexual harassment and 91% are subject to sexual violence.

The statistics strongly suggest that the Arab Spring has had an adverse effect on women throughout the Arab World.

    The rankings:

    1 Comosos Islands
    2 Oman
    3 Kuwait
    4 Jordan
    5 Qatar
    6 Tunisia
    7 Algeria
    8 Morocco
    9 Libya
    10 UAE
    11 Mauritania
    12 Bahrain
    13 Djibouti
    14 Somalia
    15 Palestinian Territories
    16 Lebanon
    17 Sudan
    18 Yemen
    19 Syria
    20 Saudi Arabia
    21 Iraq
    22 Egypt

As long as these self-appointed male caretakers of Muslim tradition, who feel threatened by the appearance of a significant number of women in a public space, considered reserved for men only, and who say they see emancipated Muslim women as negative exemplars of Westernization have any influence, it will never change! These men are mentally living in the dark ages.

50% of KSA is under the age of 25. 60% of which are under 13. [thx, Dok]

They don't go to the mosque or know much about Sharia. They prefer TV, twitter & facebook.

They are aimless and believe they are entitled to jobs that foreigners have.

Things are going to change in KSA within this decade if not the next. For the better or worse is to be seen.
