Ships and aircraft that are launching platforms will also be taken out. But some of Iran's newer asm's (the qader/noor) can be launched by TELs which are disguised as civilian trucking. This could pose some difficulties as we try to avoid civilian casualties. The upside is that you force them to use inland launch sites and the range of the missiles limits their usefulness. Other arrows? proxy warfare/terrorism. With the situation in Syria is Iran still able to launch a proxy war against Israel with HAMAS? What is the archer here and how do you deal with it? Egypt seems to be tightening up its border with respect to weapons smuggling, would weapons going thru Syria make it into the hands of Hamas or would they end up used in that conflict?
Meant to say Hezbollah, not hamas since we are talking Iran.

The USAF should have advertise this as defense against the Iranian Navy asymmetric warfare doctrine. That would have secured B1-B's funding.

Actually, the most versitile and cost effective weapon would be the one and only .50 caliber Machine Gun. The trick is using the right kind of ammo. One of the engineering techs I worked with at LBNSY was a Nam vet (Army) who always had a Mah Deuce mounted on his truck. I related to some of us that at one time he picked up a box of ammo he thought was "only" armor piercing. It turned out to be WW II vintage TRAIN BUSTER ammo developed for punching through German armored trains or at least locomotive boilers.

He said he was shocked when he opened fire with it on some Victor Charlies in some wood in that the rounds actually exploded and he was having a ball knocking the trees down on top of the guys in black.

So, .50 caliber HE rounds would be the best to load up on the MG stanchions along the ship's handrails. Though a single round of common ball could turn the engine block into several pieces of scrap, it may just go through certain explosives without enough shock power to set them off.

In many North vs South reinactments, target shooting with .58 caliber muzzle loaders is always fun. Cutting a 2 X 4 in half, popping balloons and setting off QUARTER STICKS OF 40% DYNAMITE. Often the Army would enter a team with modern rifles and ammo. Popping balloons was simple. Cutting a 2 X 4 in half used up lots of ammo because the bullet is so much smaller than the front loaders and too fast to mushroom out. And they never could set off any dynamite. The bullets would just drill a clean hole through them. Would probably be the same on 60% or even RDX mixed with wax (C-4).

So .50 caliber explosive ammo would be the best all around bullets for hold drilling, amor piercing, engine busting and pre-detonating any type of explosive.

And a heck of a lot cheaper than those rockets even as impressive as they are.
Able to leap tall tales in a single groan.

I guess API rounds would go through the floatation foam too fast to catch it on fire?

What? No .50 cal hollow points?.
Seriously though this sounds like the USN arming up like in WW2 in the Pacific and expecting hundreds of kamikazes. Just point the AA fire to sea level.
Removing a single turd from the cesspool doesn't make any difference.
