    Spanish train derailment

BBC News - Dozens die as Spanish train derails in Galicia

A train has derailed in north-western Spain, killing at least 77 of its 218 passengers and injuring more than 100, officials in the Galicia region say.

All eight carriages of the Madrid to Ferrol train came off the tracks near the city of Santiago de Compostela.

Media reports say the train may have been travelling at more than twice the speed limit around a curve.

Officials have not commented on the cause. Analysts say it is the worst train accident in Spain in 40 years.

Yeah, it is very sad to see and hear about. There was a lot of rumors that people heard bombs going off before hand, but I don't really see any evidence of this in the video. Also, it seems that the media has been blowing stories like this out of proportion when the facts are all anyone needs to know. 80 is so many people and there could be more, I hope their families find peace.

black box info show the engineer was talkign on his phone to company officials and that the brakes were activated just before the curve. It also appears the train entered that 50mph curve at 120mph, 70mph greater than the allowed speed.

If only we could transfer this speed to the Asiana jet that crashed...

This incident was front page news in my daily. The driver had over thirty years of experience.

There was another derailment yesterday in Berlin. That's a whole lot of train wrecks than we normally see. I thought the Spanish trains had a speed control on them, so that incidents like this wouldn't actually happen?
