Gee where have I see that before?

He might have missed it. Look at it as another plus for the Esquire series.

It was an angle I never appreciated, and makes some sense out of the "what was Lee thinking" situation.

Yeah...I love all of the new Civil War research of the last 10 years. We have stripped away the hagiography as well as teh demonizing. We have started to realize that these were just men thrust into events many times beyond their abilities who tried the best they knew how.

Once you appreciate that you can actually appreciate some pretty basic points....even scapegoats like Butler, Sickles and McClernand had value and provided some valuable contributions to advancing the Union cause. And Leed id make mistakes and was hardly the Marble General.

Shek, I just blew beer through my nose!!!!

    On a semi-serious note....

My top 5 favorite monuments at Gettysburg are the 8th OHVI, the 1st Minnesota, 20th MAVI, 9th Mass Btry & 43 NYVI.

All have stories which always meant a ton to me.

I did not have time to look for Longstreet's memorial. He must have one, right? It was starting to rain and the tour bus was about to leave...
