              Yeah...I love all of the new Civil War research of the last 10 years. We have stripped away the hagiography as well as teh demonizing. We have started to realize that these were just men thrust into events many times beyond their abilities who tried the best they knew how.

              Once you appreciate that you can actually appreciate some pretty basic points....even scapegoats like Butler, Sickles and McClernand had value and provided some valuable contributions to advancing the Union cause. And Leed id make mistakes and was hardly the Marble General.

                            My top 5 favorite monuments at Gettysburg are the 8th OHVI, the 1st Minnesota, 20th MAVI, 9th Mass Btry & 43 NYVI.

                            All have stories which always meant a ton to me.

                                I know where 1 MN is - where are the others so I can check them out next time.
