  • Senate passes 'fiscal cliff' deal

The US Senate has passed a compromise measure to partially avert the so-called government 'fiscal cliff'. The Senate measure, which primarily addresses 'fiscal cliff tax increases', now goes to the House where it may encounter significant push-back. Congressional leaders have agreed to address the 'spending cuts' portion of the fiscal cliff within the next two months. Under the Senate compromise deal, unemployment benefits will remain in place.

so the US government made the cliff itself, and was climbing on the way to jump off it, and then decided not to at the last moment, that sound right?

Government made the cliff, climbed on it, but the Senate decided not to jump. I think.
